As part of a collaboration with Hip Hop Motivation’s Kenyatta Griggs, Dame Dash has released the first chapter from his “Culture Vultures” audiobook. Titled “The Secret To Ballin,” the chapter touches on the former Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder’s time at The Roc, his relationship with Jay Z and Kanye West, education, and more.
He revealed that “there was no beef” between himself and Jay Z, and added that he’s “proud of” both Jay Z and Kanye West.
“People always ask what happened between me and Jay, as if there was some sort of beef that broke us apart…What we did was create a company together,” Dame reads, according to XXLMag.com. “We sold it. He went corporate and I decided to stay independent. There was no beef…I’m proud of Jay Z’s success and Kanye’s success. Inside I feel like I had something to do with their success…I don’t have anything but positive things to say. What Jay wanted to become, he became. And what Kanye wanted to become, he became.”
Before speaking on Jay Z and Kanye and matters concerning Roc-A-Fella Records, Dame shared his thoughts on education. He explained that in his opinion, the ideal combination is to have “school plus street knowledge.”

“I’m not trying to push that education isn’t important by saying all this,” he said. “Because my belief is that school plus street knowledge is the ideal way to come up. But for me, experience was always my best teacher. If you don’t know what you want to do, I think it’s best to go to school until you find out what it is you want to become. And when you do find out what that is, my advice is that you go out and live it.”
