After taking to social media himself to announce that his background vocals appear on the song, Ty Dolla $ign recently sat down with Billboard to break down his contributions to Kanye West and Paul McCartney’s “Only One” single and expose more work with the award-winning artists.
During the conversation, Ty Dolla $ign revealed that he recorded as many as nine songs with West this past September in Mexico.
“One day my homie Ricky Anderson [Kanye’s cousin] hit me up and was like, ‘Kanye wants you to come work with him in Mexico,’ so I came out there [and] we did like nine songs in one day; one of them happened to be ‘Only One,'” Ty told Billboard.
Opening up about recording a handful songs with Kanye in a 24-hour period, the Beach House singer described the relaxed recording atmosphere at a “big house” in Mexico.

“[In] like 24 hours, [we recorded] seven songs or nine songs that day,” he said. “I was like, ‘I’m here with Kanye, I’m not gonna waste my time.’ They really wanted me to stay for like a week, but I only had like two days, ’cause I was about to start the [Under the Influence of Music] tour. He was open to my input, like, ‘do whatever you want to do. Here’s your mic. Do you need anything?’ I’m like ‘Awesome! Let’s get it!”
“[We were] in Mexico, at this big house,” Ty added. “The back of the house had no walls and no doors; it was just open [and facing] the ocean. You would think he would want the mic enclosed and all that but we just had the doors open, and it came out perfect. That inspired me to record like that at the crib.”
Revealing new information about another Kanye West and Paul McCartney collaboration on the way, Ty Dolla hinted that a new song featuring the two superstars, himself, and Rihanna would be released from Kanye’s album as well.
“It’s gonna drop soon,” he said of the yet-to-be-released collab. “I heard they shot the video recently. I don’t know what the final title is, but I know it’s crazy so just be looking out for [it].
