Atlanta, Georgia beatsmith Mike WiLL Made It recently chopped it up with XXLMag.com about his future projects and other endeavors. Among the projects the producer is planning on releasing in the immediate future is his Ransom mixtape.
With its release scheduled for next week, Mike WiLL was asked what fans can expect from the mixtape. According to the musician, he plans on taking his music “back to basics” and chose to focus on the underground with Ransom.
He later revealed that Rae Sremmurd, Migos, and Rich Homie Quan are a handful of artists who will be featured on Ransom.
“Getting back to basics,” Mike WiLL said when asked about his new mixtape. “Not really commercial-driven or anything like that, I’m just focusing on the underground, you know what I’m saying? There’s some new faces from the underground, you got Future on there, you got 2 Chainz, you got Gucci, Chief Keef, PeeWee [Longway], [Young] Thug, Rae Sremmurd, Two-9…People that’s coming up in the underground, people that’s already been running the underground, people that I work closely with, you know what I’m saying? I feel like it’s my version of my Chronic. You know what I’m saying? When Dr. Dre came out with The Chronic, it’s something slick like that.”

With Atlanta-based duo Rae Sremmurd signed to his Ear Drummer Records, Mike WiLL spoke on the success of the pair’s “No Type” and “No Flex Zone” records. He says it was a success that grew “organically.”
The producer later shed a few details on Rae Sremmurd’s upcoming album, SremmLife. He says the project will include features from Nicki Minaj and Young Thug.
“I think it’s dope,” he said. “I think it’s the right time, people are starting to pay attention to everything that we got going on. It’s dope how people organically—we didn’t have to force it or nothin’—people just organically started gravitating to it. That Ear Drummers sound is like the next-level ear, some forward-pushing shit, it’s just trend-setting and people are loving it. So hopefully they’re gonna grab the album and hear the rest of the album and love the rest of it as well. We’ve probably [been working on it] about a year and some change. I don’t think those two songs are the same type of record, and every song keeps changing. Every song—the whole album is full of urgent songs. It’s just 11 urgent songs that just go up. Some are for the club, some are for the radio, they got a couple features. They got Nicki on the album, they got Young Thug on the album, then they got Big Sean on the album.”
Lastly, Mike WiLL spoke on his plans for 2015, which include releasing “hella music” and his first album. He then shared that he’s been in the studio with Miley Cyrus, Lil Wayne, BJ The Chicago Kid, and Rick Ross.

“So for 2015 I feel like we can get back on the 2013 shit, put out hella music, feeding everybody dope shit and just continuing to push it forward,” Mike WiLL said. “I’m gonna drop my first album next year. This mixtape, I felt like I needed to drop this mixtape just to get back to that underground phase, so that when I drop my album…. Me and Miley, we’re working again on her next album, but we did a song for my album that’s crazy. Been working with Lil Wayne for my album. Got a record with Chance The Rapper and BJ The Chicago Kid and Jeremih, them three got a song on my album. Jeezy, I’ve been working with Rick Ross, Tinashe and Juicy J got a record. So the album is coming together, but I would like to work with like James Blake or FKA Twigs or somebody like that.”
