Atlanta, Georgia rapper T.I. continued to defend fellow artist Iggy Azalea, during an interview with HardKnockTV. The Hustle Gang helmsman shared his belief that Iggy, who was born in Sydney, Australia, shouldn’t be judged based on her creed, nationality, or the country she hails from.
T.I. also applauded Iggy for her work ethic and her unwillingness to compromise on her artistry.
“I think her influence in music it should be attributed to her work ethic,” T.I. said in a video posted on AllHipHop.com. “Her artistic views. Her impeccable ability to kind of—She has a vision for herself. And this vision for herself she will not compromise. She has a certain idea of how to present herself. How to platform her art and she won’t compromise it. So, I think she should be judged based on that rather than her creed, her nationality, her—What country she’s from. I think all of that—Those are stereotypes.”
Later in the interview, T.I. was asked if he considers Iggy Azalea pop or rap. He didn’t answer the question directly, but did share his belief that Iggy should be placed in whatever category she’s making the most noise in.
The Southern wordsmith then criticized those who attempt to put artists in certain categories.
“I mean, I’d put her wherever she made the most noise,” he said. “I think that when you start trying to classify people in different categories I think that’s when you kind of—You diminish the purpose of what we do. What we do [is] we try to bring people together. And you trying to take time to meticulously separate us by pop, rap, this, that. I think she can go in a lot of different genres because she’s cross-pollinated.”
Another artist T.I. addressed during his interview with HardKnockTV was fellow lyricist Andre 3000. He says he has commended Andre for his work on the big screen, and later referred to OutKast as “our Run DMC.”
“He shared his appreciation for my efforts. And likewise,” T.I. said. “I saw a clip from him in the Jimi Hendrix film and it was phenomenal…OutKast is our Run DMC, period. You know what I mean? And he definitely has shown how to remain multifaceted and diverse. And how to evolve as an artist, as an actor, whatever. And still remain true to you. So, I think that that to me is—That’s what 3000 and not just Andre, but that’s what OutKast embodies.”
In regards to Iggy Azalea criticism, Rah Digga serves as one of the latest artists to offer their thoughts on the Aussie artist. During an interview with ThisIs50 Radio last month, Rah shared her belief that Iggy isn’t Hip Hop.
“Iggy Azalea it’s like I can’t get into her,” Rah said. “Because it’s just not real to me…There is a white girl from Australia that spits in an Australian accent, and her name is Chelsea Jane. That I can get into. Teach me Australian Hip Hop culture. Don’t come to America and try to convince me that you’re Gangsta Boo…Personally, I don’t consider her Hip Hop. I listen to her album. Everything that I hear on there is everything but that. And I feel like Hip Hop is Hip Hop.”
Not all money is good money, T.I.
wrong
I judge her based on her music and it’s fugayzi.
” I judge her by what area she makes the most noise in” ok so again thanks for agreeing along with Iggy herself that she is POP , that’s where 80% of her fans come from! soccer moms! white kids in the burbs! little girls playing it at sleepovers, jane is fucking POP now stop writing about her
same people who listen to weezy and drake
i like them all, but i agree, i don’t think you can say they do anything different this way
You have just listed the wealthiest sector in America Average median wealth is $60,000
The average black median wealth is $7000
The soccer-moms and average white teens are a market that Rap has not been able to penetrate except for a few black Rappers like Drake and Kanye – Try going to one of Kanye’s Concerts and be overcome with whiteness, so it’s a good opportunity for more Rap penetration by people like Iggy bringing them to Rap.
shes judged cause she is a posh Australian pop hoe but raps like she from a Georgia housing project FOH
Nobody owns a language or a dialect, just like no French person can come you and tell you you can’t speak French or Rap in French – You learn it you can use it…period.
Iggy is free to be a Southern old black lady, if that’s what makes her comfortable, and you are free to speak proper English and no white or pink person can stop you.
T.I. is right. Iggy shouldn’t be judged for her race or nationality. She should be judged on her rapping and music, both which suck.
But better than Nicki
lol @ clifford
julie got you out here putting your name on the line for that fake rapping bitch
Iggy the last of a dying breed
T.I. OCTOBER 21
Saying what country a person is from is not a stereotype, it’s a fact. Skin color is not a stereotype either, it’s a fact. Saying that someone is black so they must like fried chicken and grape soda is a stereotype. TI should be hitting the books, not interview sets.
no, but juding a person on the country they’re from is a stereotype. what does her having to be born in Australia have to do with anything she says? Drake changes his accent too, but you don’t hear people crying about that.
Saying that white colored people prefer bloody meat and buttermilk is a stereotype.
The Albino gal is an Australian Caucasian mimicking the dialect of Black southerners from the United States, she is a disgusting pig and a culture vulture.
the point is she’s Australian, show us your version of how your country embraced the music by dropping some Australian rap in America, not this fronting farce sh*t TI & Julie got you gullible sheep believing is authentic
and yes people do mention Drake’s Canadian, just that Canada been riding America’s dick for so long it’s not a surprise
now before you think to respond, ask yourself when’s the last time an American went to another country, hopped on many a dicks to get noticed, got the labels to rig their success and chart top that country’s music while said American don’t musically fvck with not one other American, just whoever in that country can get them fame
this is how badly they mindfuck y’all
Don’t hate on Australia.
The Land Down Under has produced some fantastic hip hop. Hilltop Hoods, Def Wish Cast, Bliss n Eso, Bias B, Maundz and the list goes on. Even Chuck D plays some on rapstation.com!
While I am not a fan of Iggy, I wonder if people are hating on Iggy because she is Australian? No, they are hating on the fact it’s pop and using a southern accent.
Let’s be honest, REAL hip hop is not mainstream and never has been. What your seeing and listening to is recording company garbage that gets packaged and sold to the public as “hip-hop”.
Recognize game when you see it.
troll clown niggas
TI is a sell out Iggy is garbage the only way he can stay on tv is he has sold his soul and is a puppet for the industry when they done wit him you will hear him rapping another tune bout how they did me wrong
SHUT THE FUCK UP AND BUY PAPERWORK OCTOBER 21
Now I don’t see why T.I. needs to defend Iggy because Iggy has already jumped over the hater-posse and is now super successful.
I think Iggy has already slapped-down the twitter and blogs hate-posse, take a look at the amount of black kids at her shows rocking to her beats, she’s winning.
I think Iggy has already stripped-down to her birthday suit in that sex video. Can’t wait man!
LIES. There may be one or two who came with the security. Lies is what her whole career is based on, and ignorance.
Iggy was not born in Sydney, she is from Mullumbimby, a tiny, community-based town, near Byron Bay.
No record label would ever support an Australian rapper, so wake up people. It’s too easy to criticise, and your’ all wasting your energy, especially as it’s negative. She’s an entertainer, they all lie in some way. Rick Ross anyone?
Actually Mullumbimby is a part of the outer province of Australia, it’s what you would call outlands/backlands area, but it is Australia.
The white Eminem made racist raps songs and lied about them but whites forgave him.
Judge her on her beefy cunt flaps!
Cool
Can she be judged on the whole fake accent, fake booty, fake swagger thing though ?
Its ironic that a person from Australia – who are known to be racist to Asians, Indians and others, wants to make money from American black music genres
her family killed the aboriginal natives of Australia
^ wow, what a bunch of fucking whiners on this site
so all Australian people are racist now?
LOL
shes dating a nigga
Negros gotta stop defending Albinos
What color is a shit smear?
depends on if you talkin bout pigeon shit or not lol
No one is judging her on her nationality, we are criticizing her music because it fucking sucks. Everytime I hear her on the radio I am ashamed that she is white.
I just wait for her to crowd surf & my fingers be all in her Koochie.
dat racis ho iz straigt garbagio
” I think she should be judged based on that rather than her creed, her nationality, herWhat country shes from. I think all of thatThose are stereotypes.
Stereotypes???? Lol nigga the fuckin irony, stfu faggot.
Iggy is playing the getto American southern stereotype, which is insulting and unbelievably cringey to listen to. Smh
Ive lost all respect for Tip. First he takes that L from Floyd and Tiny, now this??………..faggot.
Thanks, TIP.. and to think, I was judging her solely on her garbage ass music.
