The backlash was swift following a joke on-air personality Karrueche Tran made about Beyoncé and Jay Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, during an episode of BET’s “106 & Park.” While reciting a list of the “Top Six Things Blue Ivy Thought About The VMAs,” Karrueche read the following as the third item on the list: “I really did wake up like this because my parents never combed my hair.”
Despite following up the joke with “Sorry, Blue! I love you,” a video clip of the joke Karrueche read quickly went viral and immediately drew concern from Beyoncé fans.
According to Billboard.com, in addition to Karrueche informing fans via Twitter that she didn’t write the script for the “Top Six Things Blue Ivy Thought About The VMAs” segment, BET president Stephen Hill also issued an apology to Jay Z and Beyoncé via Twitter.
Hill referred to the joke as “stupid” and “unthoughtful” and revealed that the fiasco was not Karrueche’s fault.
Karrueche also offered the following apology on her Instagram page:
“Past two days have been extremely draining.. As I geared up for a big day for myself – hosting a live show.. I never expected things to turn out this way.. I apologize to any and everyone who felt offended in any way by the comments made by BET executed through me.. I would never disrespect anyone’s child in any way and anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE Beyoncé. My comments have been in complete shambles.. yes I am human too and yes I do make mistakes.. But all this negativity and death wishes are quite a lot.. Definitely a lesson learned from here forth.. Again, on behalf of MYSELF, my sincerest apologies #BeyHive”
“106 & Park” host Bow Wow added his two cents on the matter in a video posted on Instagram yesterday (August 26).
“Now, a brother like me, would I have read that shit? Hell nah. Nope, wouldn’t have did it. Hell nah. Nope, not me. Nope, not on duty. Not on duty,” Bow Wow said in the video.
Following Karrueche’s comments on Monday (August 25), it’s been reported that “106 & Park” is now on hiatus. But according to Complex, Bow Wow revealed that the hiatus is something the show does every fall.

#MIKEBROWN
Lol, all the buffoonery BET airs and this is what they apologize for?
the real question I have for BET is why “Karrueche Tran” is even apart of this awards show? what does she do besides sleep with r&b niggas and break up with him every other month?
fuck that little bastard monkey
So one little joke about the baby and there’s a huge controversy? This shit is stupid. Fuck you keyboard warriors
cant upset b and jay, that would be career ending for BET
its 2014 and black women still have hair weave and perm hair!!!!!
we are soooo fucking lost as a people.
black women are the most single out of any other race wake up
YOU wake up son, you online tearing down sistas you don’t even know or understand the degree of how all of this social and broadcast media is tearing society apart
go netflix “miss representation” and be THANKFUL you got brothers like ME around…..this nonsense is being done to ALL women and cats like YOU doing their dirty work by downing ONE RACE when it’s ALL OF US being played
Real talk. In this day and age, our sisters should know how beautiful and unique they are naturally.
all of us??..lol not just one race??..lol. and you want me to neflix to get answers??
black women need to go natural stop trying to follow your oppressor.
black man need to encourage black women to go natural.
thats the first step my man don cornelius was saying this back in the 70s
all we talk about is white name brands like it gives us value
we have to keep our money in our communities like all the other races do.
“Big Mike”……..
Yes, all of us. I stated up there in that novel (LOL) how deep this goes, and how the young Caucasian male has ALWAYS been the target of the deception. You ever hear how they tear down their own women on TV? The news? MAN, they discriminate against their own women!
Since we watch TV too, we can be programmed as well without noticing wtf is happening. Ever see sisters with blond streaks, blue or hazel contacts, cosmetic surgery like ass caulking, talk with a valley accent, WATCH SOAP OPERAS and act it out?
See, we’re saying many of the same things, but you cannot put it into context like me so others who aren’t seeing the deception will pause, re-read, and take that moment to go see it for what it is. You’re doing the media’s dirt for them putting down your sistas. NEVER EVER DO THAT FAMILY. That’s the reason we’re even on this bandwidth page discussing it.
The women need to talk to the women and that documentary is great for them to see some other women kick that knowledge. But as men, we need to watch it too because we dwell around women, talk to them, raise them, and should support them regardless if they are led astray.
Nothing wrong with you getting some knowledge to talk to your sisters “Big Mike”. ‘Miss Representation’. Can’t lose watching it.
Guys have a media problem too, with the macho, gun toting, conservative thinking, “not rich you’re useless”, square jaw with blue eyes, light skin not dark, put on a toupee if you’re losing hair, agenda. Recently added are gay, gruffy beard, weird acting, nerdy.
All fact. RIP Don Cornelius, one of the last brothers alive to be anti-media. We need your help too “big mike”, let’s work.
wow! very well put I will watch the documentary. we should email direct next time
bet ain’t even black television
Gotta admit the kid has fucked up hair. Wouldn’t kill them to groom it a little.
If it doesn`t bother the PARENTS of the child then why does it bother you (someone that doesn`t play any significant role in their day to day)?
You mean to whiten it up?
lol BET is jokes
” But all this negativity and death wishes”
^
wow keyboard warriors
Black folks showed more outrage about this than the Ferguson shooting..
LMAO!!! Black people are so full of shit! Who makes more jokes about black hair than black people? Now we’re offended over this shit? Give me a break! More and more we’re making ourselves the laughingstock of society. Get over this ignorant and nonsensical bullshit!
you’re the laughingstock, blaming your own for a mere perception you’ve been taught and showing your ignorance to what’s really going on.
Go clean yourself up and rid yourself of that ugliness you just displayed.
^^ I feel like your probably the same person that made that compelling argument towards the top of this comment section. Or am I wrong?
You’re not wrong, just noting another version of self hate the media can lead you to if you don’t see it for what it is.
imma tired as fuck
Can someone PLEASE TELL ME who the comment is offensive to? And why it’s offensive? I mean this in all sincerity.
Its offensive to beyonce fans everywhere and thats quite a lot. they’re the most addicting annoying stans around
Ok but my second question remains….WHY is it offensive? Whats the logic here?
Because she’s cracking on a baby. Babies using don’t have made-up going out for camera hairdos so it was unnecessary.
The hypocrisy comes in because they crack on every other woman who isn’t a baby, tearing each other down who doesn’t fit that media perfection of what a woman is supposed to look like.
Funny part is that perception was made by a group of old white men in the late 1940s, who most likely were gay pedophiles. That’s why I’m dropping the paragraphs up in here.
What I’m saying has a lot to do with this story and all of this social media stuff. And it’s not a secret, documentaries are out there.
WHO GIVES A FUCK? FUCK THAT LITTLE BITCH AND HER HAIR
Say that with your real profile (ID) if you have the guts. Coward.
black americans are so racially confused
Actually, the media has specifically targeted white males since WW2. They only incorporated the women in the 50s but still discriminated against them. Don’t forget Blacks were not allowed then so it’s actually white males who are confused, believe and been believing, incorporate and been incorporating what the media tells and shows them.
So you got the young girls (your sisters, friends, girlfriends, aunts) going anorexic, being smuts trying to be successful, wanting fake titties and vaginal mesh, whoring their self out on social media wanting to be noticed, cutting their arms and being druggies because they don’t have “the look”. The older women around 40 (is it a coincidence you think the same for rappers?) are done & should make way for the new ones, try anything to look young especially surgery, are considered sex starved cougars, or should be home baking pies because they’re wrinkling up.
Ever wonder why dad & granddad get younger girls? They fed into the media, not a “midlife crisis”. The media caters to the “13 yr old white male” thoughts. White males young and old were voting for Sarah Palin because they thought she was cute, not qualified. Actual fact.
It should be no surprise BET got HER to do it, not HIM. BET is owned by Viacom, and Viacom (CBS) was the first station to fully incorporate this media agenda. In all honesty, it’s easier to break a minority out of the agenda because they are barely represented in the visuals. Check TV for day and see if I’m wrong.
Y’all need to start using the internet for more research and less social website following.
^^ Great post. Easily the most well thought out, sensible comment ever made on this site. Great perspective as well. I never thought of it that way. But your argument cannot be argued against! #Salute
They got us where they want us now. Who needs the KKK when we have black entertainers like Jay Z selling drug dealer dreams to our youth.
Fuck up your community. Kill black people. Black women are strippers. Sell and do drugs.
This is the message of almost every rapper on the radio besides Kendrick and Kanye. This message is being sent out on the radio by black people for black people.
They make songs a racist white person could only dream of.
Salute to you.
People don’t think about it that way, they accept it, consume and live accordingly. The big story the rest of the week will be who looked good or bad on the Emmy red carpet (by Joan Rivers of all people).
Media has been poisoning us since the 1940s and life has been imitating art. People are happy with calling their self a “follower”. That should have been the last straw right there.
As grimey and offensive as your comments reads homie, you’re absolutely right and saying exactly what I’m saying in a different form.
Actually, the 1st thing they look for when they wanna sign you is how marketable you are to promote you. Media. Music’s secondary, the hits on you social media determine how people relate to the person is first. Clever huh?
Comcast (NBC/Universal) owns TV, cable, music, movie studios, Hulu with Disney & Sony, parts of Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Nestle, their even telling you what to wash with and what candy and food to eat. Seriously, they own Cheerios, Hot Pockets, Nestea, Powerbar, Haagen Daz, Febreeze…..go wiki them and see
Instead of the internet traffic worrying about a baby’s hair and some of you downing your race and women, we should be directing this traffic to stop that Comcast-Time Warner cable merger that our great Congress is being lobbied for at these exact moments for approval.
bet is full of house negroes
Seriously. One person. Please tell me why this is offensive. I don’t think anyone can do it.
it’s offensive because so many people are acting like they give a damn
why I’ve been dropping the media facts because it’s time to spread the word how this is gotten outta hand
It’s offensive because they are ridiculing a young child about her appearance. Also, BLACK Entertainment Television shouldn’t condemn a little black girl on her natural hair. B.I.C. has beautiful natural hair and the black community should support her instead of trying to tear down a little girl.
Turn in your nuts for a pussy. Bitch ass mofo.
What’s offensive is the music Jay Z sold black people for over a decade. Telling them it’s cool to sell drugs to your people. Shoot niggas and call our black women bitches and hos.
Fuck Jay z and his play a stripper at her concerts bitch.
@lakeread
You’re right. When I was a baby people used to make fun of me for taking a lot of naps. My parents and I struggled every day with this. “Why are you ridiculing our baby?” they would ask. I’m still self conscious about it.
However, I was fortunate because my parents combed my hair every morning. My neighbors would all say. “Now THAT’S what a baby’s hair should look like!” Thank god for that.
she made a comment about her hair…..and this is news?????? LOL!
brush it off lightly and have fun, she a beautiful child as we can all can see!
riteee
“Gives me time to film CSI.”
LOL you ain’t filming shit nigga, now go work your shitty 9 to 5 at shitty ass CET
And you’re doing what? Come on now. Hating just to be hating or to do you just get petted when one or two laugh at your idiotic remark?
^^ Is you Bow Wow’s girlfriend or something?
Black people be hatin on black people 24/7. Instead of giving dude props, people got to be negative. He’s probably doing a lot better than the fools on this website!
DANIELLE HARLING FUCKING SUCKS DICK MAN
CSI Cyber lol That shit will flop so hard in the ratings.
Death threats lmao what kinda lame stupid fucks be sending death threats that don’t even know the parents personally, fucking losers, I would’ve flipped em all the finger and told em suck a dick if I was in dat bitch’s position.
Oh please almighty JayBey, please do not take too much offense to that joke about your baby’s hair. Please. We love you both and all of the ratings that you generate for our MTV’s TRL knockoff that is, sadly, currently, our longest running active programming…we mean all that you do for entertainment in itself. If we lose your revenue stream…er…um…respect we’d deeply regret the social media backlash…I mean we’d regret our mistake for making a distasteful joke about beautiful Blu Ivy’s hair.
We don’t agree with all the people that state that two megastar’s whose career choice in life was two generate hundreds of millions of dollars based on looks, appearance, swag, vanity, ego, etc…should have their pride and joy in the public eye with a head full of ungroomed hair EVERYTIME we see her. No. That’s not our opinion at all. So with all due respect o mega ones. We apologize.
So please don’t take your videos from our show. Please.
“Instead of the internet traffic worrying about a baby’s hair and some of you downing your race and women, we should be directing this traffic to stop that Comcast-Time Warner cable merger that our great Congress is being lobbied for at these exact moments for approval.”
^ let “hairgate” go sir, there are more important things to do that will affect every single one of us.
Anyone who read this comment thread, don’t be scared to research on your own. We are all being fed a fallacy by the media. Even you who work for it (yes they read their own press). Let’s chill for a while on the crucifying those who make mistakes and start educating them so they learn from their mistakes.
*****don’t think I went pudding all of a sudden, lol
d mac
LOST THE LITTLE RESPECT I HAVE OF BET/106 AND PARK.
Why the hell do people need to apologize all the time? And what was so BAD about the “joke”???? Its kind of true..I mean, look at the mop on her head
This is truly ridiculous. Karreuche is getting death threats over a scripted joke? Stop the madness. Beyonce and Jay-Z need to learn how to take a joke. As an A-list celebrity, you open yourself up to a world of criticism. They should understand that! You cannot be sensitive in this industry.
And let’s be honest, Blue’s hair ALWAYS looks wild in pictures. With all of the money and personal assistants they have at their disposal, their child’s hair should look neat every single day. There are hundreds of beautiful natural hairstyles out there.
And one last thing – everyone keeps saying, “it’s wrong to insult an innocent baby.” No one is coming at Blue. They’re really coming at Beyonce & Jay-Z. If you see a young child in public with messy hair or raggedy clothes – who do you blame? The child or the parent? …. Exactly. I guess the truth hurts.
I would NEVER trust this site to have my email addy. But I can train the eye thru the structure of words and content to know when it’s me, even if I’m somewhere else that’s safe.
d mac
It’s like sitting front row at a comedy show. You should’ve sat somewhere else if you didn’t want to be the butt of the jokes. Comb your child’s hair and she wouldn’t be the butt of the joke. Dont be mad cause your child wasn’t special for a few moments in time…
Your comment denotes you’re programmed. Our women (and men) have been chastised for having their hair a certain way for too long for you to even think this is acceptable.
106 is not a comedy show and idk where you’ve been but most babies do not have public accepted hairdos, many of them just started growing hair.
BTW the producer has been suspended.
You make fun of a child’s hair, which is probably meant in an endearing way like most uncles or aunts tease their nephews and nieces. I think a group mentality for the hardcore Beyonce fans took it the wrong way. Bitches need to calm their tits.
shut up plz
its wasn’t karrueche’s fault that she had sad it I don’t think that the show should in
yall haters need to shut up yall act like she said something unfinsive she said sorry dangg get over it
and my opinion they ask the question she answerd it and she said what she thought it was just a joke…
