Jay Z, Kanye West, Frank Ocean Being Sued Over “Watch The Throne” Song “Made In America”

Jay Z, Kanye West and Frank Ocean are being sued by musician Joel McDonald, according XXL

McDonald says that Jay Z, Kanye West and Frank Ocean used his “Made In America” while making their song of the same name on the 2011 album Watch The Throne.

The New York musician is seeking $3 million in damages.

Joel McDonald’s “Made In Amercia” is below, as is Watch The Throne song of the same name.

In 2011, soul musician Syl Johnson sued Jay-Z and Kanye West, as well as Universal Music Group and Def Jam, for sampling his song “Different Strokes” without permission for “The Joy.”  Jay Z and Kanye West’s representatives fought the lawsuit, denying the allegations, though acknowledging that the song was released prior to Watch the Throne.

Hov and ‘Ye reportedly cited federal copyright law in their defense, claiming that because the song was made before 1972 (when the law was enacted regarding covers), they were legally able to use it.

    1. A case? The only things the songs have in common are the mention of Martin Luther King and the words Made…in America. Niggas be reaching.

    2. lmao niggas are destroyin this dude on the comments section of his video

but for real, stealing or not, why the nigga waited 3 years to sue them? lol

      1. they wait till the song has made enough money, because if they had a case before the song had made its profits, they will not get any money, since the song will be prohibited of being released

    3. Wake me up when this idiot realizes that he isn’t the first one to coin the phrase, “Made in America.”

Plus, Ocean says, “Made it in America.”

This is why we can’t have nice things.

    4. Kanye says “we made it in america” and this guy joel mac song says “made in america” the word “it” in Jay-z and kanye song is talking about a mass of people not just blurring out a phrase that is put on containers. The music is plane while jay-z and kanye song has diverse tonality, Joel Mac just his lame excuse of creativity to be noticed. This is sure to not pass in court.
