Recently sitting down with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Dave Chappelle described working with Kanye West early in his career.

“You could tell he was going to be a star,” Chappelle says. “It was like Muhammad Ali in Olympic Village. He just knew he was going to get the gold.”

Chappelle also described ‘Ye’s braggadocios behavior, something he still carries to this day.

“Jay Z says on the record, ‘Kanyeezy, you’s a genius,” Chappelle says. “‘You did it again,’ and Kanye stood up, first time he spoke all day. and said, ‘Stop the record and rewind that.'”

In the mid 2000s, Chappelle’s Show was one of the most successful comedy shows on television and it often featured a Hip Hop artist or group. One of the show’s performances was Kanye West and Common’s “The Food” set in 2004.

Dave Chappelle is currently slated to perform nine days in a row at Radio City Music Hall starting this coming Wednesday (June 18) and ending Thursday, June 26. Chappelle will be joined by Nas as the comedian celebrates the 10-year anniversary of his concert film, Block Party. The Roots, Busta Rhymes, DJ Premier and Erykah Badu are among the other performers set to join Chappelle during his numerous performances.
