Mayday! has become a popular draw on tour, but when Wrekonize decided to strike out on The Hunger Pains Tour with Kung Fu Vampire, Dirtbag Dan and G-Mo Skee, the Miami-based rapper said it was like hitting a reset button.

It feels a little like starting over, in a sense, Wrekonize says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. ”I havent done a solo tour since 2006. I did a tour with Mayday!, but Mayday was just Plex and Bernz, two people at the time, and I was solo artist  So that was my first solo tour and I haven’t toured solo since then. So it feels different in the sense that, ‘Oh, I have some accolades now. We’re signed to Strange [Music]. We’ve produced some real big records for Tech N9ne and things are going well,’ but the draw still for a solo performance by me is still small. So it feels strange that there’s all these things and people know us more, but when I go out as a solo artist, it’s still foreign to people. It doesn’t have the draw yet that I want it to have, so we come back out now and it’s like going back down to the grassroots, going back down to the grind.”

The Florida rapper has built a strong group of colleagues while touring the country with Mayday! One of those connections was Kung Fu Vampire, a San Jose, California-based rapper with a loyal following.

The two decided to partner for The Hunger Pains Tour, which is slated to appear at the Murray Theater in Salt Lake City, Utah today (April 10), because of their similar backgrounds.

“We’re all hungry artists,” Kung Fu Vampire says. “Wrek’s on an independent label. The rest of us are completely independent, no label. We’ve got our crews. We’ve got people we roll with. We’ve got people that help us, but we all are just self-made people and everything you see from us is from being hungry and from just going for it.

The Hunger Pains Tour represents people who are really good at what they do that really care about Hip Hop, care about music,” Kung Fu Vampire adds. “We care about putting out good shit.”
