LIl’ Kim says that her former recording home, Atlantic Records, did not agree with her and Diddy’s vision for her 2000 album, The Notorious K.I.M.
“Me and Puffy had our own ideas for the album,” Lil’ Kim says during an interview with Billboard. “At that time, Puff was my manager. He was everything, actually. Bad Boy was my label cause Puffy was my manager, but you can basically say that Bad Boy and Atlantic [Records] shared me.
“Atlantic didn’t really want to live up to their part of the deal because they didn’t understand the direction that me and Puffy wanted to go,” the rapper continues. “Me and Puffy had to get creative with a lot of the music. We gave them the first three tracks we wanted to be singles and they said, ‘We don’t want to support our half of it with this.’ Puffy was very credible so I said, ‘Why don’t you think he knows what he’s doing?’ I totally trusted him. But, they kept saying no. We ended up going with ‘No Matter What They Say.’ That definitely wasn’t me and Puff’s choice as the first single. But Puffy is a business man, so we compromised. We knew we had singles but Atlantic didn’t see our vision. I think our word should have meant more but we wanted their support.”
Other tracks on The Notorious K.I.M. included “How Many Licks?” with Sisqo and “Suck My D**k.”
The Notorious K.I.M. was Lil’ Kim’s second album and her first released after the death of her mentor, The Notorious B.I.G. He was killed in a still-unsolved murder in Los Angeles in 1997.
SOREN BAKER FUCKING SUCKS
Problem was and still is, Lil Kim has other people writing her raps. I hate females that don’t write their own rhymes, like MC Lyte, Vita, Lauren Hill and Salt N Pepper. At least Dr Dre and Puff Daddy produce.
what the fuck has puffy produced on his own
now biggie gone whos writing kim raps
SUCK MY FUCKING DICK, YOU FUCKING FAGGOT
EVERYONE HAS WRITERS, only dudes who can’t afford it do EVERYTHING solo.
I don’t like the direction that bitch’s face is going these days fuck is up wit that shit?
always thought “no matter what people say” and “how many licks” were some of the worst songs ever made. maybe the album woulda been better if the label let them do what they wanted to do with it.
Yeah those songs weren’t very good but it was a solid album, honestly my favorite from her.. 2nd is hardcore 3rd is la Bella mafia
Cmon Andy what about Naked Truth
That album had hits tho, I understand what she’s saying on this article bcus the songs that was put out were successful but did not represent the full body of work very well. Classics like “Aunt dot” or “Single Black Female” n “suck my dick” were the stand outs of the album.. Well put Lil Kim!
We werent glad with the direction because its the worst album Kim ever made!
Um please that album is iconic hints to her first week sales being the biggest for a female rapper second album at that time. Going in platinum in 4 weeks. Which also gave birth to female rappers to do more commercial songs and stylestyle wise. To date this album sits at 1.8 mill in us sales 3.8ww and STILL THE HIGHEST SELLING SOPHOMORE ALBUM FROM FEMALE RAPPER.
Lil Kim had one good album In my opinion. Her First one. And that’s because Biggie wrote it. It’s the Only lil Kim album I own or ever listen to top to bottom.
La Bella Mafia was okay has her hardest track on there. Get In Touch With Us Feat. Styles P that shit bangs ghost kills it
Biggie didn’t write shit he was using ghost writers himself. Check the CD inlay Lil Kim name show up as writer on every single record. Biggie’s name doesn’t show on any record he wasn’t on.
gotta use the immoral words of xzibit to solve this problem… excuse me lil kim, but… “BITCH PLEASE YOU MUST HAVE A MENTAL DISEASE NOW ASSUME A POSITION AND GET DOWN ON YO KNEES”
Why didn’t Kim reveal what the singles were meant to be
