Childish Gambino Admits To Being Depressed, Insecure

Stone Mountain, Georgia actor/rapper Childish Gambino caused concern amongst fans last month when he posted images of several letters on his Instagram page. In the handwritten letters, the wordsmith primarily expressed concern for the future, including the upcoming release of his new album, because the internet.

Following concern over the release of the letters, Childish Gambino turned to his Twitter account to address his thoughts on depression. And during an appearance on the Juan Epstein podcast this week, he admitted to being depressed and also expressed his belief that most people feel the same way.

“I’m just lost, man…Absolutely,” said the rapper when asked if he’s at all depressed. “But I don’t think mine is more important than—I feel like everyone else feels the exact same way…I don’t think we’re really doing or connecting with people.”

Childish Gambino spoke further on last month’s Instagram incident as he commented on the need for individuals to fix his situation.

“With the Instagram stuff I was a little mad cause like everybody was just trying to make me into something—like trying to close it up,” he said. “Everybody was being like ‘Oh here. This is okay. Like you’re fine. Not a crisis. Here, take these pills you’ll feel—‘ Like everybody was trying to fix it and I don’t like, I didn’t like—like fix how I feel. That’s the thing, I don’t think it was, but it went places. I posted some letters on Instagram that I wrote after a show and then people were like ‘Donald’s depressed or suicidal’…The people don’t want to be vulnerable. And that’s the thing, that’s just me. I was like ‘Man, I’m insecure. I know me. I’m just gonna let it out.’”

The rapper also offered his thoughts on friend and fellow artist, Jhene Aiko. He denied being in a relationship with the Los Angeles songstress, who appears alongside Gambino on “Bed Peace,” and offered a little insight into the singer’s artistry.

“And this is kinda why like I love her. I think she’s special. She doesn’t need anyone,” said Childish Gambino. “Like that’s the thing. Even if we were together, she wouldn’t really belong to me. She doesn’t belong to anything and I would know that. And that’s the thing, I’ve never had to deal with that…She’s off in her own world. I remember I was talking to her about music and we were just talking and chilling and she was like, ‘I make songs. I just write songs and I make music. That’s it.’”

Childish Gambino’s appearance on the Juan Epstein show comes weeks before the scheduled release of his second studio album, because the internet. The album is currently slated for released on December 10.

    1. Depression is a bitch, because the number one cure is empathy, and people don’t understand depression well enough to properly empathize with depressed people. Anyway the first step is having the balls to tell people how you feel, so good for him. Now let the asstard flaming in the comments section begin…

    2. Childish, being depressed doesn’t make you weak. It makes you stronger for having the balls to admit it. Hope you beat it man.

Also you know what? I haven’t heard any Eminem news in like months. Wonder what he’s up too.

    3. I don’t know dude so I’m just guessing, but he seems pretty down-to-earth in both his music and comedy. Maybe he’s just not cut out for stardom. If I had a whole bunch of money and women I’d my disposal, I’d probably feel lost and depressed, too.

yo man your mask sucks … if you dont want people to think your gay then dont call someone else gay for an anti female remark…its too predictable and makes it obvious that your trying to hide something to someone like me…then i can take that information and use it to corner you into being my slave…you dont want to give someone that kind of power do you?

    4. I don’t mean to sound non-empathetic or non-sympathetic but what does Glover have to be depressed about. He has money, an education, a career, girls, friends, talent, family, fame. If you depressed and you have all of that then the only thing you probably missing is Jesus.

      1. it’s a mental illness. No one picks being depressed. It isn’t rational. He probably thinks to himself “what the fuck do I have to be depressed about”.

    5. Donald is on that step to spirituality. He’s aware the he has everything except that which is what we all should focus on.

    6. People need to keep some sh*t private. Not everything needs to be posted on Social Media. Keep some things in your life private unless you want people constantly in your BI!

    7. This niggas looking for attention B! This same sob story has been written millions of times before as a PR move.. I see thru your gimmicks B! Shits wack! try again

    8. Childish needs God in his life. He is the only one who is going to truthfully give you peace and have a purpose in life. He is depressed because he feels like he does not have a purpose right now. God will give him that

    9. yo childish gambino is my idol and i feel he will follow the right path hope gets better…all the faggots like amaterasu should fuck off saying he should kill himself
