ScHoolboy Q “Oxymoron” Release Date, Cover Art, Tracklist & Album Stream

ScHoolboy Q says his new album, Oxymoron, is slated to be released January 2014, according to the rapper’s verse on Isaiah Rashad’s “Shot You Down (Remix),” which was released today (October 18).

During his verse on the selection, Q addresses his album’s delays.

“I’m still stuck in my ways,” ScHoolboy Q raps on the song. “A nigga just tryin’ to get paid / I’m tired of answering questions why Oxymoron delayed / See, I was thinking November, but January is sweet / They set my Setbacks is free, my Habits won in my sleep / So January agree, get a taste of this gangsta / See I’m just tryna eat with a freak of the week.”

The album has been delayed several times, reportedly due to sample clearance issues. Q recently confirmed that he completed the album and said that he’d submitted the project to Top Dawg, CEO of Top Dawg Ent. However, Top Dawg later told fans that Oxymoron still had samples to clear before it could have a release date.

Top Dawg’s September Twitter updates can be found below.

ScHoolboy Q has spoken extensively about Oxymoron

In June, Q spoke with HipHopDX about how his fellow Black Hippy members have influenced his work on Oxymoron.

“I strive to be better than Kendrick, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock,” Q says. “You have to compete. You can’t just let them niggas just keep shootin’ over you. Especially Kendrick, at the rate he’s going and progressing in this music. It’s inspiring. It’s crazy. I’m glad he dropped [good kid, m.A.A.d city]. If he didn’t drop that album, there’s no telling how good my album would’ve been. It’s competition. I gotta be better than his shit or just as good. It has to be just as good or better.”

    1. If you strive to be better than Kendrick, Jay Rock, and Ab-Soul, then why do you obviously put no effort in your lyrics? Hardly any multis, weak wordplay, etc. I like Schoolboy Q to an extent but only as an entertainer.

      1. He’s actually the best member of black hippy. Not saying much considering all of them are wack but Schoolboy Q, if under the gudiance of a professional like birdman or rick ross, would be a legend.

      2. I’m going to shoot myself tonight, 11 years in the psycho ward were too much for me, thanks for the love y’all. -Dentaldamboy

    2. He’s a weirdo, a hippy-gangmember with poor hygeine. Only so long this disheveled bum can eat off Kendrick before he has to go back to gangbanging in bucket-hats and knee-socks.

      1. No need to envision homosexual activity, I have simply watched his interviews were his nails were dirty and he hadn’t shaved.

      2. holy fuck you niggas is straight jokes man. i haven’t posted many comments in a while because well, this comment section has been quite uninspiring lately. reading this little blurb though reminded me of the fun energy some of y’all dumb ass muthafuckas bring to the table. it’s quite funny really. “no need to envision homosexual activity” lmao. the perspectives that have the potential to come out in these comments is gold. we just haven’t been delivering on the stimulating conversations as a community lately.

    3. Imagine this: ME, KIM K, and NORTH WEST in a insane 3 way. Kim will be blowiing me while NORTH rides me. KANYE YOU MAD?

    4. Why all the hate on Q?

All four of these guys are basically bringing hip hop back and they are ALL good. Schoolboy would rap circles round your favourite rapper and you know it. Fuck anyone who says otherwise.

BUT, this album is turning into the new Detox – just release it for fuck sake.

      1. My favorite rappers are Eminem and Kendrick and they would both slaugher him. Q is an entertainer, not a lyricist.

      2. Peep “Terrorist Threats” off Control System, Ab Soul switches up his flow in the second verse to rap like Danny Brown.

    5. Im glad they clicked tight but the truth is the truth. Jay Rock & K. Dot are the only two rappers in Black Hippy worth listening to. Schoolboy Q sounds like hundreds of other rappers I’ve heard on the underground scene with no distinguishable sound. He is highly overrated and the only thing that will save his album is strong guest features. He’s one of those dudes who thinks too highly of himself and his closest competition (fellow BLACK HIPPY members) have pulled too far ahead of him in this rap game. His B.E.T. award show performance was weak. JAY ROCK & K.DOT have that “it” factor and solid stage presence. Schoolboy Q needs to go somewhere and do DEF POETRY or something.

      1. whay about ab-soul……he can get quite intellectual when he wants to, lacks consistency tho but he definitely raps better than both schoolboy q and jay rock

    6. g-unit had the formula you let your leader shine then do the group album to focus on the other members then you comeback with the solo projects

      1. G unit formula was to watch the leader fall off and then fall off with him because he failed to allow them to be their own bosses. G Unit is a horrible example for anything.

      2. G unit is a horrible example, Tony Yayo and Banks got dropped from Interscope which shows how powerless their boss was.

      3. and meek mill got dropped from his label LOL shows how powerful Ross is. only 2 niggas from all of MMG got actual record deals… Ross and Wale.

    7. I’m a big schoolboy q fan since setbacks, but god damn some of his new shit is wack. Collard greens is fucking GARBAGE.

      1. I agree with collard greens being complete crap, but honestly nothing else has been bad. In fact i love all the other recent releases besides that one

    8. Cant wait!!! School boy Q is a fuckin boss. Hopefully all my fav. hits will be on there…. Hell Of a night, yay yay, and man of the year!

      1. Ross promised his album in December and a Jay-Z single in Novemeber and we got nothing and no dates…. at least Q got a date

    9. i don’t see oxymoron topping setbacks or habits & contradictions, but I know q will still deliver on here.. can’t wait..

    10. I just wanna hear Jay Rock’s new shit. Follow Me Home was a dope gansta west coast album. No niggaz makin that kinda music any more. It’s sad

    11. GUCCI MANE is the realest rapper and heres why.
      1) all other rappers rap about being gangster shooting and killing but they havent done it.
      2) Eminem raps about killing he hasnt.
3)Jay z raps in open letter about sending shots he hasnt.
4)Nas raps about how he is a queens thug but he wasn’t.
5)Most of the rappers rap about stuff they havent done yet you all support them and say its real rap.
6)When rick ross does it you all claim he is fake and say its fake rap.

This shows that hiphop fans are hypocritical and all these real hiphop fan wanna be’s are just some unjustified haters whose opinions are just as irrelevent as the swag fag rapper fans.

GUCCI MANE KILLED A MAN HE WAS A DRUG DEALER BEFORE RAPPER HE HAS STREET CREDENTIALS HE IS THE ONLY RAPPER THAT RAPS ABOUT FACTS THERE FORE BIG GUWOP IS THE REALEST RAPPER IN THE RAP GAME AND THATS A FACT!

    12. as a close friend of Game I can confirm that Black Hippy had gay orgies many times. Game is about to leak the infos and pics about Kendrick fucking Schoolboy Q with a strap-on (cause his dick is too small) and licking Ab Soul’s arse while Jay Rock fucking him in the ass. swag

    13. Q, you releasing your album in january instead of November because your label told you that you were not important enough to drop in the fourth quarter

      1. I just read his little rap he made about it but thanks for the clarification, dick head. I will be sure to mark it on my calender as something important

      2. “not important enough to drop in the 4th quarter”

no ones even coming out in the 4th quarter, which is usually for the tax write offs anyway.. they said it had to do with sample clearance

what difference would 4th quarter or 1st quarter really make

      3. “what difference would 4th quarter or 1st quarter really make”

It’s a dumping ground for movies and albums and shows that the production companies have little faith in. People spend less money after Christmas up until around March, with the most being in summer (which is why you see so many concerts, festivals, blockbusters, and everything else in the summer.) In movies you can tell which movies are shit if they were moved out of peak buying time (Christmas.) That’s just how it is.

      4. It could be good, it could maybe even sell though I doubt it will sell that well. That being said most established rappers drop in the third or fourth quarter, eminem 4th, jigga n kanye 3rd in 2013.

      5. truth is its not going to sell that well no matter when he puts it out. he will probably sell about what pusha t did

    14. uptil I looked at the paycheck four $5811, I didnt believe that my sister actually erning money parttime on their computer.. there best friend had bean doing this 4 only 21 months and as of now paid for the dept on their villa and purchased a brand new Bugatti Veyron. view it now… http://www.Fb39.com

no ones even coming out in the 4th quarter, which is usually for the tax write offs anyway.. they said it had to do with sample clearance

    15. singers rappers like jay z kanye west eminem 1 republic kings leon beyonce ja rule ashanti and others put hits on ppl. people after them faggets

    16. FAKEST NIGGA IN THE GAME with his beach hat. What else? Nigga wear a bathing suit to the club with his tits hangin out?

      Disgusting.

Honestly, if he ever gets a song popping & boppin on top40 for them mainstream folk, he’ll be the death of radio with such a RATCHET ignorant nature.

Blow it out your ass Schoolboy Pube you BITCHASSNIGGA

      1. “What else? Nigga wear a bathing suit to the club with his tits hangin out?”

Still wouldn’t be as bad as most of the shit Rick Ross wears, who is fatter and more disgusting and is almost always shirtless

    17. schoolboy q is average..he only has like 2 good songs and that song he did on Arsenio hall’s show was wack..

    18. “but it does appear that “Collard Greens,” “Man of the Year” and “Break The Bank” are slated to appear on the project,”

I thought he said Oxymoron will be all new music we’ve never heard before

    19. This is going to do worse than dj khaled’s numbers. And that one had no promotion. This one has tons of promotion.

      1. should do about pusha t numbers

still gonna sell more than french montana, tyga, big sean, ace hood and rich gang!

    20. i love q and album is gon’ be dope but why is he biting wayne’s album art style? expected more from the cover

      1. yeah i guess he didnt get the memo that no one is allowed to put their face on an album cover cause nas did it 20 years ago

    21. I think this gon flop big time compared to Kendrick. He aint much of an mc to me and he got this weird half hipster half gangster thing goin on not my thing anyway

    22. DAMN NIGGA ITS ABOUT TIME ! i thought this fucking album was bouta be the next coming of detox. but shiiiit still gunna buy it though lol this is Q’s year !

    23. The people who are probbaly hating on Q are probably just a bunch bitter Southern hip hop heads who cant stand to see the south losing ground and facing stiff competition from the west coast.

      1. People who like Southern hip hop don’t act like that. thats how you Lupe Fiasco/Hopsin liking muhfuckas act. bitching all the time about everything trying to dictate how artist should make THEIR music. stfu bitch

    24. Its funny cus this album is gonna sell so much more then what ive read yall bitchin about. Everytime Q has a show its sold out, from coast to coast. 1 really big radio song doesnt equal= huge album sales. Dont beleive me look at Cheif keef, French Montana, Future and Tyga. having a real loyal fanbase who actually likes you as an artist and not just your big super single= big album sales, just look at J.Cole, Kendrick, Mac Miller…yall still have that 2000-2009 mentality when it comes to album sales and it never ceases to make me laugh.

    25. Ok I will be looking out for this but now with Kendrick and Q albums out the way…
IT’S TIME FOR AB-SOUL! Top Dog Under Dog

    26. I little bit disappointed about the tracklisting i expected action bronson, ab soul featured rather than 2 chainz. Anyway can’t wait to see to what it sounds like

    27. Tracklist is WACK. all of those leaked wack tracks on the norman version, lol. Man of the year, Break the bank, Gangsta and Collard Greens are all shit. Hope this Owerhyped album flops.

      1. I mean lets be honest, I will take good kid maad city out of this.
Is contradictions on the same level as control system or section 80? I don’t think so

      2. He’s still dope, Not every member of every crew needs to be a lyrical miracle, he reminds me of 50 Cent when he first came out, the music is hard yet fun at the same time.

      1. “2 Chainz is having a top ten hit with talk dirty.”

Thanks to Jason Derulo, who’s the main artist of the song.

    28. I swear Hip Hop fans are so spoiled. Y’all are only in it for the moment and nothing is special anymore. The constant output of projects have y’all all like I want this and I want that. Music artists are supposed to make whatever and you feel it or not

Welcome to Hip Hop the genre that sold its Soul and Emotions for cold hard cash and endorsements. This is why this genre gets no respect

    29. If Q has this many haters on DX it’s a sure fire sign that he’s about to blow up. This site has the opposite opinion of the general public

    30. before I looked at the draft four $4417 , I accept …that…my neighbours mother woz like actualy bringing home money in their spare time from their laptop. . there sisters neighbour has been doing this 4 only about fifteen months and recently paid the dept on there place and purchased a great Fiat Panda . straight from the source… http://www.Fb39.com

Out of all the rappers… You assign a Lil Wayne song? My goodness. How fucked up is this world?

    31. “Thanks to Jason Derulo, who’s the main artist of the song.”

Jason Derulo had no top 10 hits since 2009, all from the first album. His second album bombed and so did the singles. The third album was only released as an ep because it do Sean Kingston sales in lp. His first single from that bombed and finally, the 2 chainz single suceeded. Meanwhile, 2 chainz had already one top ten hit, fucking problems.

      1. Doesn’t mean anything since 2 Chainz didn’t even do anything to help. He’s not the main artist and Fuckin Problems was A$AP’s song and it had Drake and Kendrick on it. Talk Dirty would’ve succeeded without a 2 Chainz remix.

      2. So not reaching the Top 10 is an automatic bomb? That’s how you know you dickride the mainstream too much. A song is only a bomb if it didn’t reach the Top 40.

      3. 2 Chainz’s album suffered from a lack of promotion. When he guest stars in a single, they still become top 40 hits on hiphop charts. And pop songs have higher standards than hiphop. That’s why unconditionally is a flop and she needed juicy j to save her. Kind of like how derulo needed 2 chainz to have his first hit in a long time.

      4. Nothing you say is true at all, it’s all a lie. That album had good promo and Chainz doesn’t make hits. Unconitionally did not flopped and and Perry didn’t need Juicy J to help her, Juicy J came to her for a hit. Same thing with Derulo. Chainz is incapable of making a hit song by himself and needed Derulo’s help to get one. Juicy and Chainz can’t make hit songs by themselves, they need other artists’ help to achieve them.

      5. A song, regardless of genre, making the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 is an automatic success. Not making the Top 40 is a flop.

      6. No one even mentioned 50 at all. Besides, it doesn’t change the fact that 2 Chainz and Juicy J can’t make hits by themselves and require help from other artists.

    32. now i get why tyler asked his followers to pre order Q’s album. the purge might be the only song im looking forward to hearing

    33. The only thing that I’m disappointed about looking at the tracklist is no “Druggys Wit Hoes 3 ft. Ab-Soul”. Other than that, it should be a dope album. Pre-ordered on iTunes already, so it’s already copped

      1. This album is nowhere near Kendrick’s in quality. Ever Section.80 is much better and I’m not a fan of it.. GKMC is easily one of the best albums out.

      1. Rocky is on one of the target edition bonus tracks, “Californication.” I doubt it but Mac &/or Ab could be on that final unrevealed target bonus track. Personally though i can’t really see how mac would fit into the vision of this project, from what i’ve heard he wouldn’t fit the vibe of the entire album but that’s just my 2 cents

    34. Why do I have a good feeling this ain’t the real track list?? Untill Q says it himself then I’ll believe it. Either way he won’t do GKMC numbers but will see

    35. who da fuck is BJ the Chicago kid ? worst rap name ever…………why niggas still putting 2 chains on they albums he is fuckin trash

      1. He’s a crazy talented singer who has collaborated with some of raps best up-and-comers (Kendrick and TDE, Freddie Gibbs, Rapsody, etc.) over the past few years. Idk how its possible people have not heard of him yet, Pineapple Now & Laters is dope in its own right…

      2. i could make a list of way worse names out there

        Lil Poopy
        Tity Boi
        Shorty Shitstain
        Peewee Longway
        Jackie Chain
        Earl Sweatshirt
        French Montana
        Young Thug
        Avon Blocksdale

    36. Horrible album. Liked his mixtapes, but this album is nothing else than a pile of horseshit. It’s so bad that 2 Chainz sounds good compared to rest of the album.

      1. what a moronic statement, anyone could call up those niggas for a feature, dont mean it deserves or will ever win a grammy

      1. I guess you could listen to this crap if you are bored or playing video games with ya boyz but this shit is not compatible with a nigga ride.

      1. The first main problem of this album is the wack production. GKMC has a near perfect production, which makes it more easier to like to an average listener like any Alchemist/Tyler fan.

    37. Not nerdy enough or hippie enough, no white artists on the features, no Crossover songs, this shit is gonna flop worse than that Yelawolf frisbee.

      1. I am a long time Yelawolf fan and I gotta say that this album is even worse than Radioactive. Trunk Muzik-tapes (even the 2nd one, yeah) beats anything Q has EVER done.

      1. none of the hipsters i know listen to tyler but they all claim to be down with wu-tang clan despite not being able to name all the members

    38. Heard it half the albums dope sort of disappointing coming from q. Niggas always come correct on the first album and fuck up after that. To busy trying to please the mainstrem fuck that q do you thats what made habits a banger.

      1. Yeah, it leaves the listener cold. Nothing special, 3/5 at it’s best. Man Of The Year and Fuck LA are the best tracks. Other tracks lack in production too much. Lyrically it’s a nice album, but Schoolboy has a bad ear for beats.

    39. I only like break the bank,studio.

collard greens WAS! nice , old now. Man of the year feels old now.

So the only fresh song I like on the album is studio ,just abit bland, terrible beat selection, normally TDE has good beat selection.

      1. he said he made more money off Lady Gaga’s ass than he ever did with his own music, he probably chillin like a villain somewhere

    40. All the dam hype and this hippy picked some of the shittiest beats he could find? What the hell is up with the
Production, he should have had Dr Dre oversee the sequencing and mixing, so e of the songs on my bootleg version sound poorly mixed. I am disappointed and I refuse to purchase this CD and I think Earl Sweatshirt had a better CD.

    41. I dont like Q or his music but I force myself to try and like him and his music because I love Kendrick so much.

      1. Kendrick just happens to be the best TDE artist. And this album is getting to much hype from HHDX, so I’m going to state my opinion.

      2. Kendrick Lamar sounds like a Somalian immigrant when he raps, he ruined an entire Pusha T song where he says “You wanna see a dead body” and he sounds like an alien robot from Ethiopia.

Black hipster nerd with his goofy haircut and hippy clothes his album was okay but Schoolboy dropped a MANs album with real lyrics delivered in a mans voice without background vocals from some hippie chick.

      3. yo thats funny cause i see Q’s album as more for the kids and young folk while GKMC is a masterpiece enjoyed by all, even with a hippie chick doing bg vocals

      4. I dont work with Somalian immigrants but I seen a movie about those pirates and they talk like Kendrick raps in that weird robotic alien from Pluto voice like a hypnotized Black muppet or a Gremlin from an African Jungle. I hate that nerd I want to go to his concert and hurl a can of Hormel Chili at his fuckin chest and leave a dent in his chest plate.

      5. “I hate that nerd I want to go to his concert and hurl a can of Hormel Chili at his fuckin chest and leave a dent in his chest plate.”

Only sad and lonely people hate people they don’t know.

      6. what does that make you? im sure niggas who go around calling people virgins online are just rolling in the poon

    42. This record is filled with violence and ignorance, just another street animal bragging about his crimes, these guy is a chode

    43. Went to a listening party Friday and I’m really disappointed. All of the singles and video’s are good songs but the album overall lacks depth and is really gangsta. If you like gangsta then this album might be for you, but the reason I like Kendrick is because of his message through the music on both albums he did. I know they are 2 different artist but I was hoping that he (Q.) figured out what made Kendrick successful and followed that formula. On top of that considering all the delays and push backs I really expected this album to be flawless. No message, he can only stand on the hot beats, and the album flow sucks. Its so up and down with no structure. TDE? Kendrick!!!!!

    44. Too street and not Hippy enough but this guy is a Crip and a drug addict so I wasnt expecting some Nas shit, he has a horrible ear for beats and this album didnt live up to the Hippy hype but he will sell well since he stands next to King Kedrick who is the beloved Ewok of the industry.

    45. I agree, Kendrick looks like one of those Ewok bears from Star Wars or that orang puppet named Bert from sesame street. His Brillo Pad haircut and shabby clothes are just a gimmick. I used to like him untill the hipsters started masterbating to his lyrics and and offering to sacrifice their children on alters for him.

      1. OP is clearly a homo judging artists based off looks and clothes. Like who cares what a nigga looks like I listen to the music and he made a great album.

      2. “I used to like him untill the hipsters started masterbating to his lyrics and and offering to sacrifice their children on alters for him.”

I’m pretty sure this make YOU the hipster! Isn’t that what they do? Brag about liking artists before everyone else knew them and got popular?

      3. So having a short flattop fade and wearing regular clothes that don’t have a European name are gimmicks? Not a fake street image or using auto-tune in every song? I don’t know if you’re either stupid or a dumb troll. Besides, hipsters don’t even listen to hip-hop music, they like that indie-rock shit.

      4. Naw hipsters claim to like everything now LOL. The hipsters I know all claim to be down with Wu-Tang but can’t name 10 songs or all the members.

      5. Who is the idiotic moron that spams the same shit under every post like a mumbling Tard he always says LIES or YOU MADE THAT UP. Stupid rejected tool.

      6. “Naw hipsters claim to like everything now LOL. The hipsters I know all claim to be down with Wu-Tang but can’t name 10 songs or all the members.”

Those aren’t hipsters, those are bandwagon people. You have no idea what a hipster is, do you? Do you even know the definition of a hipster? If you don’t what a hipster is, then you can’t use that word.

      1. im pretty sure he really was a druggie and might still be, why would anyone want to pretend to be loser addicted to pills

    46. A very cold west coast album. Only a few tracks I find myself skipping over, overall I would give it a 4/5. Don’t get the hate on Los Awesome either, shit bumps really hard in the whip.

      1. You must have a very bad audio system, if you find this album sound bumping.. Terrible album with bad production and annoying tracks. ‘Man Of The Year’ is the best track on this, since it has the only great beat on the album and verses are good too.

    47. I first didn’t like the shit but when I chilled out and stopped acting like a little bitch I found myself liking more tracks, I only dislike los awesome. I just hate q on it I hate the beat I hate jay rock on it. Purge hit and miss. I don’t like that.

2 awful tracks on an album is great in todays market.

Slaughterhouse had nearly a whole album.

Q does what he does to perfection. bit of polish on the lyrics and he is golden.

sometimes I hear his influences in his songs, hear 50 and Eminem.
