Kanye West appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” today (October 9).
The appearance followed a feud between West and the program’s host, Jimmy Kimmel. The feud came to be after Kanye West was offended by a spoof of his recent interview with BBC Radio 1, where children reenacted the conversation using transcripts.
Some believed West’s feud with Kimmel was a publicity stunt. West denied this during today’s interview with Kimmel.
“I’ve never done a publicity stunt in my life,” West said. “Anytime I went up and spoke my mind, whether or not it put my career in jeopardy, or whatever someone so-called said, it was always what I thought was the truth…I don’t follow rules of normal celebrities or whatever their publicist tells them to say. I don’t do publicity stunts. Period. Don’t ever think that.”

West also explained why his feud with Kimmel escalated.
“Jimmy does his thing,” West said. “I do my thing. At a certain point, these egos can flare up. We kind of just took it to high school a little bit.”
During the interview, West also explained his reasons for being upset at Kimmel’s spoof.
“If you guys look at the Zane [Lowe] interview [with BBC Radio 1] it’s really something extremely fearless for someone in my position to do,” Kanye West said. “Most people bow down to TV, or bow down to these cameras. I could care less about any of these cameras, in all honesty. All I care about is my family. I care about protecting my girl, protecting my baby and protecting my ideas and my dreams and that’s the reason why I went so crazy.”

Kanye West Calls Himself A Creative Genius
During the appearance, West also said that he is not politically correct.
“I’m not running for office,” Kanye West said. “I’m just here to make good music and make people feel good when they hear my music. When I did that interview [with BBC Radio 1], I was really vocal about a lot of the things I’ve been dealing with over the past ten years, in classification of just a celebrity, because for me, I’m a creative genius. There’s no other way to word it. I know you’re not supposed to say that about yourself. I say things the wrong way a lot of times, but my intention is always positive. I want to bring more things to the world. I want to help the world.”
West also said that he is proud to refer to himself as a genius, regardless of what others think.

“I’m totally weird,” West said. “I’m totally honest. I’m totally inappropriate at times. For me to say I wasn’t a genius, I would just be lying to you and myself.”
Kanye West Says His Mother Influenced His Self-Confidence
Kanye West also addressed his self-confidence and refusal to follow “rules” of society.
“My mother made me believe in myself,” West said. “No matter how many people tell me, ‘Stop believing in yourself. Stop saying what you can do. Stop affirming what you’re gonna do and then completing that in real life. That’s the improper way of doing it.’ I refuse to follow those rules that society has set up in the way that they control people with low self-esteem, with improper information, with branding, with marketing. I refuse to follow those rules. It’s about truth. It’s about information. It’s about awesomeness.”

West also said that he hopes to influence fields outside of music.
“Exactly what I did with music, I want to apply to product, I want to apply to education,” West said. “This is what my company DONDA is about.”
West’s creative company DONDA was named after West’s mother, Donda West. West’s mother passed away in 2007. She was 58.
