Kendrick Lamar Says His Goal In The Studio Is To “Annihilate”

Compton emcee Kendrick Lamar further commented on his much-discussed “Control” verse during an appearance on the late night talk show “Chelsea Lately” as he spoke on his desire to “annihilate” his lyrical competitors.

Kendrick again stated that he has no qualms with the artists he called out on “Control” and also shared some brief insight into the competitive nature of Hip Hop. Among the artists the rapper called out on his “Control” verse were A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big K.R.I.T., and the song’s creator, Big Sean.

“A lot of the cats that I named, they actually good friends of mines,” Kendrick revealed. “I basically wanted to show that I’m competitive…But when you in that booth, you have to be able to annihilate whoever out there. And that keeps the level of Hip Hop alive, as far as the culture.”

As Kendrick broke down the need for competition in Hip Hop, he compared the genre to a game of basketball as he spoke on the competitiveness of athletes like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James and how that compares to Hip Hop artists.

“So, before music I wanted to be Michael Jordan,” said Kendrick. “No, seriously. But like you said, I’m a small guy. I only grew to 5’6. It deferred my dreams to actually writing rhymes…So, I have a lot of insight on hooping. Whether you know it or not. I know looks may be deceiving.”

Thanks to a handful of radio appearances this week, Kendrick finally had the opportunity to speak on his “Control” verse. He explained the reasoning behind his king of New York mention and even revealed the name of the artist he feels put forth the best response record.

    1. Tomorrow on HHDX: Kendrick Lamar talks about the time he took, not one, but 2 poops in one day. Stay tuned!

    2. Seriously Kendrick. Dial this shit down rookie. It’s one thing to be confident, but to be this cocky with only 1 major album under your belt is asking for career suicide. There’s no reason to want to annihilate every single artist out there. The day’s of competition are over. It’s a business now, so play the game and grow wise.

      1. Nigga shit like this is the reason why this game got so soft in the past 5 or 6 years. Kendrick lit a fire under peoples asses. Nothing wrong with a little competition to keep things interesting. Fuckk outa here.

      2. hahaha this dude must be a weezy fan. are you serious? comp days are over??? wtf has hiphop done to these kids.. KEEP KILLING KDOT. no one in this era fuckin wit you my boi..

      4. i love how people mention illmatic in every discussion about hip hop just to come across as a real hip hop head because they heard it everywhere when most of them prolly don’t even like it like THAT. shit’s ridiculous.

    3. after listening to kendricks album it seems like he dont like hip hop

nothing better then that tru boom bap

    4. this lil nigga wont annihalate shit. The only nigga annihalating is big guwop gucci mane. Gucci is the godzilla of the rap game niggas never want it with big gucci.

all you fuck faces complain about rappers being fake and phony. when you finally get a real rapper who doesnt rap about fantasies you still complain. You little internet nerds never husttled u never lived that street life. You dont know shit about the streets. All you fuckboys know is how to go on the internet and act like a bunch of nerd groupies. Show sum respect for a real nigga like GUCCI.

    5. HHDX should cover more music instead of this delusional gossip type shit. Bunch of stupid ass fools making themselves look like clowns.

    6. so called “hiphop heads” cant even come up with a good argument backed with facts why an artist sucks. all they say is ignorant shit. its so annoying

    7. “during an appearance on “Chelsea Lately…””

Any rapper appearing on Chelsea Lately is automatically DQ’ed. Go to the back of the line.

      1. fuck is you talkin about its all promo

will probably boost his album sales a lil too

fuck is wrong with going on a tv show and promoting your album and work?

      2. LOL! Who’s he promoting to? ~40 soccer moms who watch Chelsea? Might make sense, because we sure as hell know he’s not trying to reach hip hop heads with his music.

      3. he already reached the hip-hop heads why you think he went platinum when none of these other niggas are doing it

    8. shit is getting corny. at the end of th day you’re just in a booth talking shit to a mic. wtf does a rapper annihilate?

      1. Truest realist comment I seen…wtf are you doing for the culture by doing that? You making rappers look LESS legit

    9. what Marjorie replied I am dazzled that anybody able to get paid $5697 in four weeks on the computer. Read Full Report… http://www.Cafe44.com

the last song on his first album mentions how big of a wu-tang fan he is…just saying. the song’s called thank me now – probably my favorite joint on that album

    10. People need to stop fucking complaining so much and start enjoying the music. We in a new Golden Era and BITCH NIGGAS always talking shit about an artist instead of congratulating and enjoying the music! #ZoneOUT #GetYoFlavorUP
