Following chatter of there being a possible lawsuit filed on behalf of Bridgeport Music and the family of the late singer Marvin Gaye against Robin Thicke due to his runaway hit “Blurred Lines,” both parties have found themselves faced with a lawsuit from the Los Angeles crooner and “Blurred Lines” collaborators Pharrell Williams and T.I.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the musical trio filed their lawsuit in a California federal court earlier in the week.
The lawsuit states that, “Plaintiffs, who have the utmost respect for and admiration of Marvin Gaye, Funkadelic and their musical legacies, reluctantly file this action in the face of multiple adverse claims from alleged successors in interest to those artists. Defendants continue to insist that plaintiffs’ massively successful composition, ‘Blurred Lines,’ copies ‘their’ compositions.”
Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter states that legal action was threatened in the hopes that both the family of Gaye and Bridgeport Music would receive a monetary settlement.
None of the three artists featured on “Blurred Lines” have responded publicly to the alleged lawsuit threats from Gaye’s family and Bridgeport Music, but they did receive support from funk music trailblazer and Funkadelic singer George Clinton.
Along with Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up,” Funkadelic’s “Sexy Ways” was another record reportedly mentioned in complaints made against “Blurred Lines.”
“Blurred Lines” serves as the lead single from Thicke’s newly-released album of the same name. The music video for the record has received over 135 million views on YouTube while the single continues to hold strong on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Blurred Lines is a straight Marvin Gaye rip off. Its popularity is a testament to Marvins incredible talent and ageless sound. Robin Thicke would be no one without Marvin and he should step back from this lawsuit and admit that Marvins music was the main influence for the song. Its basically a Marvin Gaye tribute song.
