Lauryn Hill Provides An Update On Her Prison Experience

Earlier this month, Lauryn Hill reported to prison where she began a three-month jail term for tax evasion.

For any and all who are concerned about how the former Fugees member is doing, a letter has been released, one Hill wrote while in prison for the past few weeks. The letter reads:

“I have known since very young to look for the purpose and lesson in everything, including the trials. Although it has taken some adjustment, I cannot deny the favor I have encountered while in here, and general warm reception from a community of people who despite their circumstances, have found unique ways to make the best of them. Thank you for the letters of concern and well wishes that I receive in the mail every day. Although I may not be able to write everyone back, please know that they have been received, read, acknowledged, and appreciated. With love back, MLH.”

Lauryn Hill began her prison sentence on July 8 in Danbury, Connecticut. She is serving her sentence at a minimum-security facility. Inmates there often live in open, dormitory-style housing and typically work maintenance, food service and landscaping jobs while incarcerated.

Hill pleaded guilty last year for tax evasion on more than $1.8 million of income generated from 2005 to 2007.

      1. actually we are FORCED TO there is not law … why are you not questioning celeb on why they are avoiding it eh??

      2. @do some research

You’re a fucking idiot. First of all, there ARE laws pertaining to federal, state and local taxes. If you are curious the 16th amendment to the constitution permits congress to levy an income tax. Why don’t you do some research you fucking pussy. I bet you are a welfare recipient and a huge jay-z fan.

    1. Maybe she should’ve paid her taxes like everyone else does, and not be so racist, and then maybe i’d care

    2. Lauryn has her reason for being the way she is. How many white people are racist as hell but act like its okay for them to be racist. At the end of the day Lauryn is still a queen no matter whats her struggle.

      1. Your message says it all. This cunt doesn’t represent American values. If she did, she wouldn’t be getting shoutouts from the middle east. Fuck you, you terrorist sympathizer.

      2. LOL @dentaldamboy

what a closed minded stupid idiot.. if anything kuwait is united states little bitch who bends over for the when ever they need them, why do you think they have so much money??

      3. @dentaldamboy You’re about as funny as cancer. Keep doing your thing, oh brave keyboard warrior.

    3. I WORK FOR A GOVERNMENT SPECIAL INTEREST CORPORATION, MY WORKFORCE AND I GET PAID TO COMMENT ON WEBSITES THAT SWAY CULTURAL, POLITICAL AND SENSITIVE MATTERS REGARDING PUBLIC OPINION.

WE CREATE ALIASES AND ARE GIVEN THE TASK TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT OF CONFUSION AMONG THE FORUMS OF MANY WEBSITES TO PREVENT THE PUBLIC FROM EXPRESSING, INSPIRING AND ULTIMATELY CONGREGATING.

I DON’T WANT TO DO IT ANY MORE. THEY WILL FIND ME SO DON’T LET THIS BE IN VAIN. TELL YOUR FELLOW CITIZENS. AND MARCH UPON THOSE WHO OPPRESS YOU AS ONE.

      1. workforce=employment to keep unemployment benefits

been telling you clowns there are paid commenters, aka trolls

dentaldamboy/so icy boi be commenting to keep them food stamps

you sheep are the new slaves, slaves of a mental death and the power of the media

      1. Yes, she did. She sold her soul by making shitty pop records? She can’t sing at all; Lauryn will forever be a better singer.

    4. This irrelevent bitch is a nobody in the rao game. She will never have a fragment of the sucess nicki has. Nicki will for ever be the queen of hiphop she is a better rapper a better singer better looking and 100 times more relevent. Nicki is the queen of hiphop its a fact ymcmb empire we untouchable nigga.

      1. And to clowns like you, I always ask to provide factual information of an incident where Blacks flood a white culture website to imply their opinions on whites, because you can’t. We see the comments y’all make here, on TMZ, on ESPN, on the state websites, many of you are hardcore and covert racists.

We don’t fuck with y’all like that, but y’all stay trying to be down with us, following us, commenting on everything our people do, always wanna tell us how we should be living, how to speak, what to wear. We don’t have chimpouts and Confederate Avengers. If you hate us so much why do you pay us so much attention? Most of you live in areas where you have close to no interaction with Blacks at all, why do you hate them? Bob & Joey down the road robbed you and hit on your woman and took pictures of your baby girl, why are you so fascinated and scared of niggas in Chicago, Detroit, LA and NYC when you live in Montana, Iowa, South Dakota and Utah?

Y’all don’t even know what racism is, you’ve been around your own all your life. Bunch of fucking frauds you are.

      2. Well said second anonymous . Why are they even trolling a hip hop website . They should hang out with their own kind on a site like stormcunt

    5. What I learn most about white people from reading these mostly white comments, is that they have a massive superiority complex. They’re very self righteous and think they’re somehow “above” the things a lot of ‘black people’ choose to rap about. “How dare they talk about the struggles they had to deal with at the hands of white people, how dare they rap from the perspective a person from a white created ghetto, how dare they rap about having a better life after being deprived of anything and everything their whole lives. They should act like hipsters or pick up a dictionary and use big words to impress us. We control this shit and we should dictate what they do, even though they invented and we’re just guests” lol That’s what you guys sound like to me.

White people have forgotten that they’re just guests in our house. They have gotten WAAYYYY to bold and comfortable with this shit, look at these comments. They’re no longer just buying rappers music for what it is, or accepting it… They actually think they can control it. They feel entitled to our music, as if it’s the natural order of the world for them to take what we have. It’s kind of unbelievable to me.

      1. The irony here is you:

A.) Assume anonymous internet comments are by white people
B.) Use that extremely small sample to make a general statement on an entire race
C.) Projected superiority yourself and suggested whites were inferior
D.) Sound super emotional over race. Grow up. It’s 2013.

      2. Nothing tears down my own personal superiority complex than reading racist comments by other white people on hip hop websites.

    6. lol @ both sides playing the race card left and right.

simple fact of the matter is lauryn likes to play the race card her own damn self.

if some of yall cant get along shut the fuck up and move on.

      1. We are all trying to avoid our taxes .

You poor peasants black and white are just sheep for the system .

We have special interest groups working on our behalf

The poor and middle classes are their to support us the 1%

We have been planting the racial and economic seeds for a number of years .

We are happy when you poor deluded fools think it is all about race it’s about assets and liquidity not race you poor deluded lemmings .

NOW GET BACK TO WORK !!!

      2. @ illuminati There is no Illuminati you stupid fuck .

No one is hiding the fact/s that certain lobbying groups are pushing their own agendas whether that be carving up weapons contracts, land banking etc .

YOU AMERICANS ARE SO FUCKING DUMB IT’S LAUGHABLE

    7. Just to think you are only in this world because you’re retarded dad was to weak/high to cover it up all those years ago

    8. I would like to thank my fellow brave keyboard warrior’s from the states of Montana, Iowa ,South Dakota,Utah

Without you’re irrelevant racist views the black and brown visitors of Hip Hop Dx would not understand how angry we are with the state of the world and Hip Hop

Brave keyboard warriors, they claim we are not Brave because we hide behind anonymous usernames and wouldn’t say boo to a goose or a black person in real life .

Those who try and stop us will never win as it is are civic white duty to spew outdated racist comments anonymously on hip hop websites .

Stay strong brothers and sisters keep up the fight we will overcome the unfair struggle’s we are going through

      1. ^ He is not talking about anyone killing anyone.

Stupid Anonymous Dweeb you are exactly what he is talking about you BRAVE KEYWORD WARRIOR SLIT YOU’RE OWN WRIST’S BASTARD NO ONE WOULD CARE IF YOU WAS NOT HERE caps off

    9. why should I care about Lauryn Hill? she is just a has been. Nicki Minaj’s legendary status is more relevant and at least she can sing or rap better den Hill. you niggaz are just mad cause YMCMB run da rap game. swag

      1. Shut your bitch ass up. The only thing Minaj and YMCMB is running is the intelligence from our youth with all that shitty ABC 123 HIP “POP” WACK ASS TRACKS. those one dimensional sorry ass rappers in that YMCMB are TRASH.

Go read a book and when your done go listen to some real NY hip hop.

      2. Lauryn Hill has female predecessors:

        1.Rita J
        2.Tiye Phoenix
        3.Akau Naru
        4.Sa Roc
        5.Boog Brown

ALSO I’m not a Nicki Minaj hater I’m just not follower. Her music as far as production just doesn’t move me its too popish

    10. Minimum-security facility? Sounds like the real trial and tribulation will only come when she will start working off the million dollar loan Sony gave her …

    11. Ms.Hill am glad to know your progressing well & I know in spite the obstacles you’ve encountered both self-inflicted and otherwise you remain an artist and person who strives to encourage love and peaceful co-existence. I as a fan don’t know you personally but know that your music is a vessel of your philosophy: self-awareness and love.”I know for certain, just because you know all about the artist, does not mean you know the person…” Reflections Eternal(Talib Kweli)- City Playgrounds.
