Kanye West’s “Yeezus,” J. Cole’s “Born Sinner” & Wale’s “The Gifted” Make Billboard History

Thanks to the release of a slew of rap albums over the past few weeks, the genre again had quite the momentous and reportedly history-breaking week according to the Billboard 200 chart.

According to Billboard.com, this week serves as the first time in Billboard 200 history that rap albums have managed to attain the top three spots on the chart for three consecutive weeks. And with the release of Jay-Z’s 12th studio album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, the rap streak could possibly continue into next week.

Among the albums responsible for the history-making deed are J. Cole’s Born Sinner, Kanye West’s Yeezus, Mac Miller’s Watching Movies With The Sound Off, and chart newcomer The Gifted, an album that serves as Wale’s third solo effort.

In those three weeks, the four albums mentioned have switched positions each week with the release of Wale’s album knocking off Miller’s from holding a spot in the Top 3 and Born Sinner clenching the number one spot on the chart for the first time this week.

Surprisingly, it was well over a decade ago when this history-breaking feat was almost made. In 2002, albums from Nelly, Eminem, Nas, and Irv Gotti held the Top 3 spots on the Billboard 200 chart, but only for two consecutive weeks.

    1. wuddup world! guess whos baaaack. just got back from my vaykay is the south of france. and its good to be home yall! this aint nothing but some bull ish. how bout the billboard record they dont talk about. Weezus 9 straight number 1 albums! Starts with the block is hot and going to IANAHB 2!!!! and his new Devol album will be another smash! what cha know about that? Ya bish? ya you bish! ya damn bish!!!!

      1. Let’s get one thing straight, bitch. Wayne only has 3 #1 albums on the Billboard 200 (C3, INAHB1, C4).

    2. Post note: While all three of those albums had rap, only The Gifted is considered True Hiphop. Yeezus and Born Sinner are both considered Pop EDM.

      1. What are you talking about Born Sinner wasn’t pop at all, you obviously didn’t even listen to the album.

      2. I can type some else’s name and claim to be them also.
Seriously though, Born Sinner >>> Yeezus >>>>> Wale’s shit.

      3. Really Danielle? I’m an avid user of HHDX and really enjoy the reviews but I would like to know what makes you consider Born Sinner more Pop EDM than hip hop?

      4. Hope when you said Wale’s shit I hope your not saying his album is shit because The Gifted is a remarkable album. And Born Sinner is no where near Pop EMD lol.

      5. that’s gotta be dentaldambitch posing as danielle.. the obvious kanye/j cole jab and wale praising gives it away..

      6. j. cole is a r&b singer not a rapper “who Dat” was his only good song since then he’s turned bitch made

    3. Extended Play (Statik Selektah, june 18) > yeezus, born sinner & gifted

idk about Watching Movies though. but i do like ‘Red Dot Music”

    4. “In 2002, albums from Nelly, Eminem, Nas, and Irv Gotti”

Lol Wasn’t aware Irv Gotti was a rapper.

    5. Only Billboard would try and make this into something monumental. Big deal. It’s not like any of these albums are doing crazy numbers. Oh wait. Drake does crazy numbers, so let’s just wait till the new album drops then we can feel justified using the word history.

    6. Really? You would think danielle harding would reply on comments? You are some dumb fucks. The style fits far more with dentaldambitch than her. BTW, I saw very few copies of born sinner and sidlines true story but 3 whole rows of mostly vandalized ianahb2 albums.

    7. all three of the albums were trash. Kanye= weak production/weaker lyrics j. cole=sings for bitches and just fuck wale’s sensitive ass
