On June 15 in London, Yasiin Bey took part in a demonstration that briefly demonstrated the conditions select detainees at Guantanamo Bay, a detention camp located in Cuba, undergo on a daily basis.

The video of the demonstration was posted online this week via YouTube and shows the rapper taking part in a forced feeding procedure reportedly identical to the one conducted on 44 Guantanamo Bay detainees twice a day.

The video begins with a message that reads: “There are currently 120 detainees on hunger strike in Guantanamo Bay. 44 of them are being force fed against their will.” Yasiin then appears and announces that he is “here today to demonstrate the standard, operating procedure for force feeding detainees at Guantanamo Bay.”

The musician and Black Star member is then restrained in a chair using head, wrist, and leg restraints before a tube is placed through his nose and to the back of his throat.

Although it is a reported two-hour long procedure, Yasiin Bey underwent the force feeding for a little over a minute before confessing, “I really couldn’t take it.” Video of the force feeding procedure can be found below.

Not one to shy away from civil rights issues, Yasiin partnered with Center For Constitutional Rights and Communities United For Police Reform several months ago to release a PSA calling out the New York Police Department and its “stop-and-frisk” policy.
