After collaborating with Wiz Khalifa on the 2012 $Uzy 6 $Peedmixtape track “Goin’ Up,”IamSu! will be producing for the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania rapper. “He’s a homie,” IamSu! says in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “I was a huge fan of his. I never expected something like that to happen. I’m about to get in the studio with Wiz for his next album.”

The “Goin’ Up” video was directed by fellow Bay Area native Kreayshawn“She had a cool vision for the video and I like how it came together,” IamSu! says to HipHopDX. “Kreayshawn’s nice like a grandma, you know?” Su adds before laughing. “I’m working with 2 Chainz, too.”

At press time, IamSu! was not sure whether he would be either rapping or producing with 2 Chainz, or doing both. Either way, playing the part of both rapper and producer is nothing new for the Bay Area rapper.

IamSu! got an early break at Youth Radio in Oakland, California, where he studied under hit-making producer Trackademicks. He was 14 at the time. “I would make random beats for people in high school,” he says. “I had all these ideas while I was making the beats…I recorded my first song when I was 16.”

Since then, IamSu! has recorded hundreds of songs. He says he is especially proud of two songs from his recently released Kilt II mixtape. “The song that I feel like I put the best work in as a rapper was ‘Hipster Girls,’” he says, “but producer-wise it had to be ‘The Science’ ’cause I play live bass and piano on there myself.”
