Large Professor Shocked By Jay-Z & Nas’ Early Beef

Serving as the latest guest on The Combat Jack Show, Harlem rapper/producer Large Professor shared his first-hand account of the infamous beef between Hip Hop Titan’s Jay-Z and Nas. The former Main Source member revealed that even though Nas may have expected his riff with Jay-Z, he never could have predicted that the two emcees would go at it on wax.

“No, I would never have thought them dudes,” said Large Professor. “Because Jay—that’s a cool dude…Because I was with Nas the first time we heard it and it was like ‘yo.’ But I think Nas already knew. Nas knew what was kinda brewing already. I didn’t…Because I think he knew so, he was like, ‘Nah yo, don’t worry. We got this.’”

Large Professor was quick to state that his loyalty lied with Nas throughout the ordeal and commented on Nas’ impressive handling of the situation. During the time of his beef with Jay-Z, the Queensbridge rapper was also coping with a sick mother.

“Definitely,” said Large Professor, when asked if his loyalty at the time lied with Nas. “And it’s like, ‘Nah man. This is getting a little too gritty.’ But how Nas was handling it and he was going through the situation with his mother and she was sick and things like that. It was just like, ‘Yo god, you aight? You good?’ And he’s like ‘Nah yo, I got this. Don’t worry about that’…He always reassured me though.”

Prior to sharing his thoughts on the beef between Jay-Z and Nas, Large Professor commented on Jay-Z’s “I showed you your first Tec, on tour with Large Professor” lyric on “Takeover” and revealed that while Jay-Z may not have been carrying a TEC-9 while on tour, he was likely armed with something.

    1. okay, look where jay z is at in his career and look where nas is at in his career and you tell me who won

      1. Where their lives ended up doesnt matter. What matters is the lyrics, the bars, and the songs that came out of the battle. Nas won the beef. Point blank period.
Did Nas win the most money contest? No he did not
Did Nas win the best business man contest? No he did not.
Did Nas win the RAP BATTLE? Yes he did

Too many people try to add in things that have nothing to do with the subject at hand.

      2. bk sounding like a female scoping out probabilities of a husband while we’re talking about music

      3. They both benifited from it. IMO It woke NAS up. When they came back together they concreted themselves in Hip Hop History.

If what you say is True, NWA won the beef with Ice Cube. Dre has more money and we know for a fact that is a lie. Yo.

      4. they’re both rich, Jay-Z is still selling because he’s a sellout now, making pop music (still better than 95% mainstream artists)
Nas is still selling because he didn’t sellout and still makes good music
ergo they’re both relevant and winning

    2. Harlem/rapper producer? I should get your job, seriously because. Large Pro is from Flushing Queens!

    3. Nas has a superior mind and level head. Jay-Z was the emotional one on the radio after the battle crying to Angie Martinez on HOT 97. It was over from the H to the OMO freestyle. Jay-Z lied about the tec on the dresser which Nas had in his Illmatic days when Jay-Z was on Nas dick trying to work with him.

    4. We all know Kreayshawn rules the game right now. She sold a million opening weekend. V Nasty also sold a million opening weekend with her duet album with Gucci. Jay Z and Nas aint got shit on them.

    5. I still don’t get how people still think nas won that battle. Jay took nas apart piece by piece in one verse on takeover, stating straight facts about Nas’s career. Ether was a hot track, but it took him the whole song to really not say too much. Some silly jabs about his looks and whatnot. Then came super ugly, which no matter what anybody says, put the nail in the coffin. I’m a fan of both artists, but I have to say, Jay won.

      1. I see u r still trying to rewrite history cos the battle was fought and Nas was declared winner by votes. But of course u are entitled to ur opinion however uneducated they are.

Secondly, Ether is universally known as the blueprint for a diss track from a lyrical standpoint. I mean Jay was almost crying and stuttering like a sick kid with speech impediment on hot 97 when he heard it. I guess silly jabs almost made a grown man cry but am not surprised he dint start learning Karate till his old age. Silly Jabs, How I wish u was at the receiving end of this; U seemed to be only concerned with dissing women/ were u abused as a child scared to smile they called u ugly/well life is harsh, hug me. or In 88 u was getting chased through you buildings/ u used to called my crib and aint give u my numbers, all i did was give u a style for you to run with, smiling in my face glad to break bread with the god/wearing Jazz chains etc. There is a reason why Jay dint blow until he got really old and listened to d original rap blueprint; Illmatic.

Thirdly, wat facts? Oh u mean 1 hot album in every 10 year average, huh. Not so fast, its either ur maths is just as poor as Jay or u r just another stan that refused to know simple maths cos I dnt get how from 94 when Illmatic dropped to 2001 equals 10 years. Oh, perhaps the fact u r talking about is that Illmatic was hot but IWW was eh, I Am n Nastradamus were trash and Nas was garbage all according to Jay despite all these albums selling better than Illmatic and IWW being chosen as a better album by some as his best album. SMH

      2. I’m not going to spend a bunch of time arguing about this, but the “vote” that declared nas the winner on hot 97 was between super ugly and ether, and the voting was pretty close. Super ugly was a quick freestyle to shoot back at nas after all of the dick sucking gay jokes, and ether was an album track. Put takeover against ether and you might have had a different outcome. You want to talk about the math too, look up what year nas appeared on live at the BBQ .

      3. if you talk about the year nas appeared on Live at the BBQ, which is 1991, then you should also mention the actual year Jay-z appeared on the rap scene, which is far back as 1985 #Fact … which in actual sense means Jigga had been in the game 6 years straight before Nas made an appearance … now look who got more years in the game?

    6. It’s too bad that Ja Rule wasn’t mentioned in this considering that everyone knows that Ja Rule wrote for Nas and was Jay-Z’s copy editor and in reality Ja Rule has been touring under the stage name One Republic

    7. Jay got too cocky and Nas got in his ass…you Jay stans kill me…how about this: look who was nice then and still is to this day…NAS!!!! Jigga’s output has been garbage since after the Blueprint…

      1. actually nas output has been pure garbage since,he only has 2 or 3 good albums that’s it nas is nice but stays rapping on some wack ass beats

    8. Really.. some niggas think nas was better… now i see why he don’t get all those who thought he was better buying his record… come on lames where are his facts and how can you say nas won when he was talking about Hov’s looks and all. saying shit about gay and ROC and aids.. when Hov’s and all crew are till alive… now i see how people hate Hov and his master mind to success… none of you fake can do it real like Hov did it. if you think nas or you fake fools are real try and come close or get over Hov. then i will say fakes rules the world, till then fuck fake rappers.. WE WILL NOT LOOSE.

      1. Let Jay’s testicles breathe son, Nas had the better diss record. Only a sucker would point to money and success when we’re talking about a rap battle on wax.

      2. Nas has the better diss record? Ether is some good shit, but people forget Jay also destroyed Prodigy in the Takeover. Jay named names and talked some real shit all throughout the track. I mean, I get it…..everyone likes to root for the underdog. But Hov got that one.

      3. Nas had the better diss record. I like them both as great emcees so I don’t need to root for an underdog. Maybe you should try being unbiased too.

    9. Jay won that beef. He killed him with superugly beat him down with takeover. For the record Takeover was all around better than Ether. Wack production and silly gay jokes. “You ain’t live it, you witnessed it from your folks pad, scribbled in your notepad and created your life” now claim I D-ride because only simple Idiots think Nas won. Jay won the rap beef and the real beef. But Stillmatic easily even that good so what do you expect.

      1. What real beef, they never took it to the streets. “Eminem murdered you on your own sh*t” is a silly gay joke now I see. Guys always want to re-write things to fit their biased opinions. smh

      2. That was Eminem in his prime. I didn’t see Nas collab with him? Nas would have got killed to, Nas is afraid of competition so he collabs with wack rappers to look good. Look at his history.

      3. AZ is a perfect example of a rapper held back. He’s a great rapper who seems dumbed down down on illmatic now shut Your dumbness up, E-Thug.

      4. so half of wu tang, mobb deep, scarface, AZ, DMX, Cormega, Kool G rap, Big Pun, slick rick and common are all wack? Most of these he collaborated with when they were in their prime. Comparable to Jay-z and his collaborations wouldnt you say? Totally eclipse most of eminems collaborations wouldnt you say?

    10. Look, the streets decided it then, after and even now. Nas won that battle, hands down, which is why Ether hold it’s own place in hip-hop history and not superugly or Takeover.

But no one is arguing about who’s career came out on top afterwards. But that’s not the ‘beef’ it’s the game. You can be the best lyricist and come at the hottest rapper in the game at the time and win. But winning that battle doesn’t mean you’ll get his/her spot or have anything handed to you. Jay Z knew how to make a single, make an album with multiple hits that fed the hip-hop fans and the mainstream fans. He had the better beat selection, marketing plan and always looked at the long term (business ventures).

Fans get hung up on Nas vs Hov because the winner didn’t come out on top in the long-run. But that had nothing to do with the beef and everything to do with making the right career moves. Hov took the radio, Nas won the streets.

      1. Well said. I am a poet, not a businessman so to me Nas is better than Jay-Z. I lost my respect to Jay when he became too radio-friendly and lately he is more of a pop star than a hip hop artist.

    11. Takeover was a better song but Ether was a better diss. The public voted, and the verdict, Jay lost, Nas won. End of story. What also made it worse was that Hot 97 interview Jay did after Ether. He was hurt lol. Memphis Bleek confirmed that, Beanie Sigel too etc. it was a sad day at the arc lmao. Move on fuckers!

    12. can a nas fan please explain how ether demeanored jay z and what facts were thrown at jay z cus all i heard were some creatively written childish disses about jay z’s looks thats about it.

    13. Nas fans so far have only stated that people voted and nas won but thats irrelevent since so many people vote lil wayne as the best rapper so what people think has very little relevence i want some facts decyphiring the lyrics.

      1. 2 different eras dude

01: ppl looked down on Ja Rule/Nelly types except the females
        11: if u aint down with Wayne/Ross/Gucci…bye

    14. on the real tho ya mofos still debating on the Nas-Jay beef 12 yrs later meanwhile the lollipop shit/metal-trap shit hijacked the genre. wake up lames

    15. Jay-Z is the 90s version of Drake. True story. They both make good music and make a lot of money but Jay will never touch Nas on the mic the same way Drake cant touch Kendrick. Sure they sell more records but they’re not better rappers.

    16. you guys are gay… arguing about this shit 12 fucking years later. i mean, what is there to argue about? the streets crowned nas the winner and that’s all there is to it.

    17. no vaseline = ended nwa
hit em up = ended badboy
      takeover = ended mobb deep
back down = ended ja rule
nail in the coffin = ended benzino
      ether = DIDNT END SHIT!!

      1. NWA broke up when Dre left
        BadBoy still exists
        Mobb Deep still exists
Hail Mary remix did more damage than that song you named
Benzino was never a respected rapper
        Ether hurt Jay

        now fvck off culture vulture

      2. I like both, so I don’t really care about the little feud that Nas/Jay fans have, but I’ll say this…

Anytime someone made a good diss song after Nas came at Jay, people referred to it as being ‘ethered’.

A good diss song doesn’t have to end someone’s career.

    18. This guy is a fuckin nerd. I mean he says “it was gettin too gritty” referring to jay/nas “beef”. Neither of them dudes is a street dude, they are just bunch of dicksuckin nerds.

Maybe he vegetarian so he dont need the beef though

    19. This was a fake beef. Back then everybody still talked about Big and Pac and to have a place in history Jay and Nas started to diss eachother. Dont believe the hype.

    20. The truth of the matter is that there will never be agreement on who won the beef. Jay Z fans will say Jay Z won, Nas fans will say he won. While we argue, the two are living their lives.

    21. Jay’s disses were all ghostwritten, nas destroyed him no matter what you say. Even though the squashed the beef you can still see the tension between em. Someone in the comments called large pro a nerd, dude’s a legend he’s the professor for a reason.

    22. you never see jay fans shitting on nas in every jay z post.. its always the other way round. jay fans got nothing to prove because jay is already highly regarded. on the other hand i cant even enjoy a new nas song on this site without reading some nas fuckboy saying some sideways shit about jay because nas gets somewhat over looked and they dont think jay deserves all the love her gets.

i think nas dickriders are just insecure about nas’ place in hip hop and the fact that jay, his rival, is more esteemed and celebrated by pop culture. so they are constantly talking down on jay on every blog to make nas look better. nas already top 5 DOA, yet his groupies despise jay’s success to the point where they become bigger haters of jay than they are fans of nas himself.

      1. I like both of them really, but i was always annoyed when he used to say he was the greatest rapper alive and Nas & Eminem were both better than him at the time.

      2. *fan of both*

It’s funny how “Jay fans” always criticize “Nas fans” on posts. You’re essentially doing the same thing your bitching about.

    23. “I showed you your first tech on tour with Large Profesor, then I heard ya album about ya tech on ya dresser”

      1. “Harlem-born, Queens-bred” is what they should have said.

“Born up in Harlem, ever since been destined for stardom”
        – Large Professor, “Ijuswannachill”

    24. going back on this beef…NAS took on Roc-A-Fella SOLO and still murked them. For those that say that Jay won this beef, they dont know ISH! One line KILLED Jay…..QUEENS NIGGAS RUN YOU, ASK RUSSELL SIMMONS!! THE END!

    25. *To everybody that came on this post to say that this isnt relevant 12 years later…You are not a Hip Hop fan. I can make that generalization w/o even knowin any of yall niggas. This beef spawned countless hits 2 classic albums & for a while replaced the biggie 2pac convo. Its been 12 years. Old enough to be old but not old enough to be out of your IPOd/laptop/cd collection.
*Some guy said Jay-z & Nas werent street dudesum ok. Thats str8 up not knowin what you are talkn about
*To anyone that has both Jay-z & Nas outside of their fave 5..entitled to your opinion and I would deff listen to why other rappers are your fav. However, your fave 5 is most likely wack compared to the real top 5. Not everyone gets a ring buddy. (Yes I quoted Drake. No hes not in my fave5. I am a big Curren$y fan. Couple friends make fun of me for it, but Id never say hes top 5. So no Pharoah Monch, Common,Big Pun Lil Wayne (great rapper no matter how easy it is to hate him) or -whoever else ppl like to add to the top 5 greatest rapper list- is not on the list. Those guys are greats on their own right. No need to bring them in this convo tho. Its Biggie 2pac Nas Jay-z Eminem. I think everybody knows that. Google your fav rapper, as some point he prob said Nas & Jay-z are influencesso who are u 2say they are wack?
      * and Finallythe streets did decide who the winner is. But both guys came out stronger after. Both rappers are legends and part of the Rap Mount Rushmore.

    26. Nas will never be the same again, the things JAY said to him during their beef resonated in a most profound way up till now.And lets stop already with all this ‘Nas is better’ bullshit.Jay can’t be touched by nobody lyrically, thats why they call Hova!He is up there looking down at all them other rappers.DON’T THROW ROCKS AT THE THRONE OR JAY WILL DETACH YOU,MIND FROM BODY!

      1. @Creep

Really? Jay can’t be touched lyrically? Really? So what do you can say about Em’s verse on “Renegade? Nas’ “Ether”? Kanye’s verse on “Run This Town”? The Notorious B.I.G. on “Brooklyn’s Finest”. Don’t engage in embellishment or hyperbole, dunny.

    27. R.O.C., we running this rap shit
Memphis Bleek, we running this rap shit
      B. Mac, we running this rap shit
Freeway, we run this rap shit

You bringing them boys to men, how them boys gonna win?
This is grown man B.I., get you rolled into triage, bi-atch
Your reach ain’t long enough, dunny
Your peeps ain’t strong enough, fucker

Niggas’ll kidnap your babies, spit at your lady
We bring knife to fistfight, kill your drama
We kill you motherfucking ants with a sledgehammer
Don’t let me do it to you, dunny, cause I overdo it
So you won’t confuse it with “just rap music”

      [Hook]

      [Verse 2]
I don’t care if you Mobb Deep, I hold triggers to crews
You little fuck, I got money stacks bigger than you
When I was pushing weight, back in ’88
You was a ballerina, I got the pictures, I seen ya
Then you dropped “Shook Ones”, switched your demeanor
Well – we don’t believe you, you need more people
Roc-A-Fella, students of the game, we passed the class cause
Nobody can read you dudes like we do
Don’t let em gas you, like “Jigga is ass and won’t clap you”
Trust me on this one, I’ll detach you
Mind from spirit, body from soul
They’ll have to hold a mass, put your body in a hole
No, you’re not on my level get your brakes tweaked
I sold what your whole album sold in my first week
You guys don’t want it with Hov
Ask Nas, he don’t want it with Hov, no!

      [Hook]

Then I heard your album about your Tec on the dresser
So yeah, I sampled your voice, you was using it wrong
You made it a hot line, I made it a hot song

So stop with that childish shit, nigga I’m grown

You can’t fuck with me – go play somewhere, I’m busy
And all you other cats throwing shots at Jigga
You only get half a bar – fuck y’all niggas

      1. ^^^
Congratulations on reciting lyrics. Takeover was solid sure. But there are childish insults in it too (‘Spark when you started just garbage, fag model for Esco ads, you’se a LAME’), but not like you Jay stans would notice. And the main point of the whole song, that Nas had one hot album every 10 yrs, was bullshit. Here’s a first four Jay v. Nas album breakdown:

        Illmatic > Reasonable Doubt, IWW >>> Vol. 1, I am = Vol. 2, Nastradamus >> Vol. 3.

You can cry about Nastradamus all you want but Nas has no album as bad as Vol. 3. So even if Jay’s stat was accurate, he would be just as guilty of it as Nas. And despite you Jay stans trying to deny Nas credit for Illmatic, YOU CAN’T. Album still hasn’t been topped to this day, and it is certainly better than every album in Jay’s catalogue.

Jay HAD to give props based off Illmatic, and regardless of what revisionist history would lead you to believe, Nas was on top of New York before Jay. Jay tried to take the throne, and Nas demolished him. He attacked him personally and musically, from his appearance, to his jocking the Firm, to his well known disloyalty, to his claiming to be the best but still getting thrashed by Em, to his lame ass ‘tae-bo’ like lines, to his taking the rap for Un getting stabbed. Straight destroyed his credibility. Read the Dehaven interview about Ether. Look at the hot97 video. Jay when at Nas while his mother was dying, then put his daughter’s mother on blast such that Jay’s mom demanded he apologize. GENUINELY BITCHMADE. It was a great battle, but Jay CLEARLY lost. The ‘Scarface Jay was Manolo’ line in Last Nigga Alive was better than Supaugly alone. And even more, Jay had ALL the media behind him back in 01. MTV, BET, hot97. Dude had constant airplay and it STILL was not good enough. Hot97 boycotted Nas during the time and even THEIR poll gave it to Nas. So really to argue in Jay’s favor is ridiculous. Listen to Blueprint 2 where Jay ADMITS he lost. DID THE SOUTH WHEN THE CIVIL WAR TOO DUMMIES?

“I don’t kill soloists only kill squads”

Only MC breathing who would have a chance against Nas in a battle is Em, and that was like 8 yrs ago

      2. @h2themo

“You no-mustache having, wit’ whiskers like a rat compared to Beans you wack” and “Tae-Bo Hoe” wasn’t childish, dude? Really? “Nastradamus” was better than “Volume 3”? Really? “I Am” is equal to “Volume 2”? Really? Really? I feel you on how biased people can be towards Jay but cats are just as biased towards Nas as seen by your post.

But you are right about one thing: the South didn’t “when” the Civil War. Also the South did not “win” it either, so kudos to you, dunny!!!!

    28. at the end of the day the south took over hip hop and new york fade into the background now ny got half assed rapper like french monatan and asap rocky trying to imitate the south sound smh

    29. Ether was a Powerfull diss track but Jay-Z was an even stronger rapper. He survived it,folks……what does not kill u can only make u stronger.

Jesus was crucified but he didn’t die.Something like my Jesus piece huh.

    30. Manz still think Renegade was Jay’s…All he did was add his verse..THE ORIGINAL is ROYCE 5’9 and EM

“he’s Royce, he’s the King Of Detroit
      And I’m the sinister, Mr. Kiss-My-Ass it’s just the”….

    31. [Intro]
      Fuck Jay-Z
      What’s up niggas, ay yo
I know you ain’t talkin’ bout me dog
      You? what?
      Fuck Jay-Z
You been on my dick nigga, you love my style
      Fuck Jay-Z

      [Hook]
      (I) Fuck with your soul like ether
(Will) Teach you – the king – you know you
(Not) God’s Son across the belly
(Lose) I prove you lost already

      [Verse 1]
Brace yourself for the main event
      Y’all impatiently waiting
It’s like an AIDS test: what’s the result
      Not positive
Who’s the best: Pac, Nas and B.I.G
Ain’t no best, East, West, North, South, flossed out, greetings
      I embrace y’all with napalm
Blows up, no guts left, chest/face gone
      How could Nas be garbage
      Semi-autos at your cartilage
Burner at the side of your dome, come out of my throne
I got this locked since 9-1
I am the truest; name a rapper that I ain’t influenced
Gave y’all chapters but now I keep my eyes on the Judas
With Hawaiian Sophie fame, kept my name in his music

      [Hook]

      [Verse 2]
I’ve been fucked over, left for dead, dissed and forgotten
Luck ran out, they hoped that I’d be gone, stiff and rotten
Y’all just piss on me, shit on me, spit on my grave
Talk about me, laugh behind my back but in my face
Y’all some well wishers, friendly actin’, envy hidin’ snakes
With your hands out for my money, man, how much can I take
When these streets keep callin’, heard it when I was sleep
That this Gay-Z and Cockafella Records wanted beef
Started cockin’ up my weapon, slowly loadin’ up this ammo
To explode it on a camel and his soldiers
I can handle this for dolo
And his manuscript just sound stupid
When KRS already made an album called Blueprint
      First Biggie’s your man
Then you got the nerve to say that you better than Big
      Dick suckin’ lips
Why don’t you let the late, great veteran live

      [Talking]
      I…will…not…lose
God’s son across the belly, I prove you lost already
The king is back, where my crown at
Ill Will rest in peace, let’s do it niggas

      [Hook]

      [Verse 3]
Y’all niggas deal with emotions like bitches
What’s sad is I love you cause you’re my brother
You traded your soul for riches
My child, I’ve watched you grow up to be famous
And now I smile like a proud dad, watchin’ his only son that made it
You seem to be only concerned with dissing women
Were you abused as a child, scared to smile, they called you ugly
Well life is harsh; hug me, don’t reject me
Or make records to disrespect me, blatant or indirectly
In 88 you was getting chased through your building
Calling my crib and I ain’t even give you my numbers
All I did was gave you a style for you to run with
Smiling in my face, glad to break bread with the god
Wearing Jaz chains, no Tecs, no cash, no cars
No jail bars Jigga, no pies, no case
Just Hawaiian shirts, hanging with little Chase
      You a fan, a phony, a fake, a pussy, a Stan
I still whip your ass, you thirty-six in a karate class
You Tae-bo ho, tryna’ work it out, you tryna’ get brolic
Ask me if I’m tryna’ kick knowledge
Nah, I’m tryna’ kick the shit you need to learn though
That ether, that shit that make your soul burn slow
Is he Dame Diddy, Dame Daddy or Dame Dummy
Oh, I get it, you Biggie and he’s Puffy
Rocafella died of AIDS, that was the end of his chapter
And that’s the guy y’all chose to name your company after?
Put it together, I rock hoes, y’all rock fellas
And now y’all try to take my spot, fellas
Feel these hot rocks fellas, put you in a dry spot, fellas
In a pine box with nine shots from my Glock, fellas
Foxy got you hot cause you kept your face in her puss
What you think, you getting girls now cause of your looks
      Ne-gro please
You no mustache having, with whiskers like a rat
      Compared to Beans you wack
And your man stabbed Un and made you take the blame
You ass, went from Jaz to hanging with Kane, to Irv, to Big
And Eminem murdered you on your own shit
You a dick-riding faggot, you love the attention
Queens niggas run you niggas, ask Russell Simmons
Ha, R-O-C get gunned up and clapped quick
J.J. Evans get gunned up and clapped quick
Your whole damn record label gunned up and clapped quick
Shawn Carter to Jay-Z, damn you on Jaz dick
So little shorty’s getting gunned up and clapped quick
How much of Biggie’s rhymes is gonna come out your fat lips
Wanted to be on every last one of my classics
You pop shit, apologize, nigga, just ask Kiss

      1. none of you can say shit han… lame shit now i see that all these other rappers hating on HOV

    32. Jay lost the battle simply because he gave Nas life. Nas was fading into the background and if there was no beef then Nas would have probably still be looking for club bangers with more Oochie Wally type joints. The beef gave him a lane and role to play. He stopped looking for commercial appeal, stopped the Nas Escobar bs, stopped all the ice and whip talk and just went against what Hip Hop was doing at the time and what Jay stood for at that point. Stillmatic, Gods Sonup to Life is GoodNas has his own lane now and hes got a solid body of work since the beef. Life is Good is Hip Hop gold!

Jay was always gonna be successful regardless of the beef because hes a hustler, knows the business and has talent. His status of a multi-millionaire would have happened with or without the beef, so I wouldnt say he won the battle because his career wasnt ended. But he took a black eye after the beef and came out of it looking worse. The height of success, haters start to flock, shots get fired and people are looking for your downfall. Nature of the beast. He had beef with Jada and the Ruff Ryders camp, had beef with Mob Deep and rappers were starting to take shots. He took on too much and Takeover ended Mobb Deep but he needed more for Nas. Lyrically, around Vol.3 to Blueprint, Jay was coasting. Just flowing off the top of his head and feeling like he couldnt lose. After Blueprint he started to get a bit more technical and more creative with his flow and lyrics. Im not wowed by Takeover. Ive heard Jay hit harder with his rap jabs. Im thinking Ride or Die Mase diss. Or even Imaginary Player which isnt directed at anyone in particular.

Jays still the best overall rapper. Nobody is touching his success level and he can hang with any rapper lyrically. But he lost that battle. I thought Super Ugly was a harder hit than Takeover but that had to get cut down because it would have taken the thing to real beef if it kept on going like that.
