Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 3/10/2013

There were no critical additions in the Hip Hop community on the Top 200 charts this past week. The Apathy-led reunion of the Demigodz, Killmatic, missed the rankings, allowing for previous 2011, 2012 and early 2013 releases to shift in rank.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ independent game-changer The Heist dropped a spot to #4, fast approaching the 500,000 benchmark. Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city, A$AP Rocky’s Long.Live.A$AP and Future’s Pluto are three major label debut albums that all gained ground from the previous week in the rankings.

The Weekend’s Trilogy Climbs 25 Spots On The Charts

Among the charts’ biggest changes was the Universal Republic Records retail debut from The Weeknd. Trilogy, a 2012 collection of Abel Tesfaye’s free mixtape work (House Of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes Of Silence) climbed to #36 from the previous week’s #61. The three-disc physical effort, which is also available digitally, features Drake and Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J.

According to Spin, the album is coming to six-disc vinyl release on March 26.

Game’s Jesus Piece Still Gathers A Congregation

Game’s 2012 album, Jesus Piece dropped five spots to #111 in the changing week. The Compton, California native’s fifth major label album is officially over the 200,000 sales mark. The DGC/Interscope Records release features Kendrick, J. Cole and Kanye West, among a litany of others.

    1. i’m here to let y’all know how many records ja rule sold… before 2012 =====> 30 million.

      Pil 2 ===> 10 million… So 40 million, he the bawse

    2. ja rule gonn release a new record, it’s called “ja rule and his shiv: the chronicles”

it’s gonna be about his experiences in jail

    3. ja rule cuts niggaz with his shiv (he made), he’ll make an album about it and it’ll sell 15 million

    4. pain is love 2 by ja rule already sold like 10 million, now the “ja rule and his shiv : the chronicles” will sell 15 mil… because people like listening to shit ja rule did in the joint

    5. also, ja rule got realllll buff in the joint. he can bench press 300 pounds and dead lift 500 pounds

    6. ja rule is stronger than 50 now, he’ll kill his bitch ass… if he can’t, he’ll just cut him up with the shiv

      1. As a kid I killed two adults, Im too advanced
I lived my 20’s at two years old, the wiser man
Truth be told, Im like ’87

    7. y’all talk about how ja rule took cocks in jail. of course he did, he’s so confident in his own sexuality (which is heterosexual) so he needed to let y’all know how comfortable he is with takin’ it up the ass. it’s no big deal for him.

    8. LMAO they put that game picture on there the fuck the THA TRUTH and all those other Game stans. Got their hopes up thinking he sold a bunch more records but naw.

    9. COngrats to GAME..over 200k (thats all im gonna say before hater get they panties in a bunch)..ANYWAY..congrats to ALL artist, posting any #s is a accomplishment…hiphop lives on, jesus piece…

      1. Why do you find it necessary to congratulate Game’s album sales every single week? Are you on his street team?

    10. Lamar’s album was overrated as fuck, son didn’t sound original at all, yet everyone thinks he’s the messiah… that said, I’m glad it’ll end up platinum, better then every hip hop album that’s gone platinum in recent memory.

get off his fuckin nuts, if Game wasn’t busy trying to sound like every other shitty rapper he’d still rule the west. eh, fuck em all

      1. that nigga ja is too gangsta for the charts, they had to create his own personal chart just to show hes in a league of his own.. ITS MURDAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    11. I hope that Wiz saves some of that 10 million he has earned so far, because pro athletes go broke with 50 million.

    12. It’s a sad time when legends like Wu Tang can’t even go gold, yet overrated one hit wonders like Macklemore can easily cruise to gold.

    13. The Weeknd has sold almost 300,000 copies of a free mixtape, that everyone had already listened to a year prior?? Whenever his real album drops he is going to do some big numbers.

      1. Not sure here, but since it’s officially 3 albums wrapped in one, one sold copy might count as three. That’s what happens with double-disc albums (see Speakerboxxx/Love Below, etc etc.)
        Not sure though.

      1. no one of butthurt! you might think lil b is better after hearing 1 or 2 macklemore songs but you are wrong. i dont even listen to mack but lil b is one of the worst of all time.

      2. hes bad to you but people other people like what hes doing.

hes clearly doing something right if his single is 4x platinum and sold 450k cds independently.

      1. He’s nowhere near Platinum, and once Wayne’s album drops, those 17,000 copies a week will fall under 10,000.

    14. Buddens laying the groundwork for LAUGHTERHOUSE III keep pushing dipshit Em’s in the lab even now dreaming for ya’ll

    15. s/o to my nigga macklemore for getting that indie money. k lamar will be platinum by summertime. wiz, game amd meek flopped real bad. a rapper of tip calibre should have been platinum by now, but he aint selling shit

    16. PIL 3 has already been certified 15x platinum and it hasn’t even been recorded yet. That’s the type of respect Ja Rule gets.

    17. When asked if he thinks Kendrick Lamar will be the next big rap star Ja Rule quietly said, “That young nigga ain’t even platinum yet.”

    18. macklemore 1 hit wonder? the only reason why only one hit got to you is because he didnt sell himself to the industry and is doin shit his way. thats why all his music doesnt come on tv every 10 seconds. macklemores lyrics are probably one of the most creative and meaningful lyrics there are right now. obviously his thrift shop song isnt one but even that song has a message and it is the fucked up way the artists form part of the exagerated consumism that exist in USA.

    19. Ja Rule Presents: 2 Shiv A Sucka LP

16 of the hardest, rawest, most emotional gangsta rap songs to ever be unleashed on a society

    20. C’mon son!! What in the FUCK is going on with Macklemore?!?! This shit is retarded! still selling 30k a week after 6 months, WTF! C’mon son!! I thought there were Demigodz fan than that!! You stupid, muthafuckin bootlegging muthafuckas!! Damn! Can’t buy a a 10 dollar fuckin CD. Those dudes are some of the illest in the underground and don’t even make it on the charts. Fuck that! What do you dudes listen to??? Oh yeah, you download shit for free..

    21. “now i’m gonna quote you”

Clever quote jr., but doesn’t change the fact of what I said. 2 Chainz had already had one shot and failed. When you reinvent yourself, and have to work 3x hard just to go gold, to me that’s critic proof.
