Talib Kweli, Jean Grae, Ab-Soul & Sarkodie BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher

Blackground Records’ Talib Kweli and Jean Grae joined Ab-Soul and Sarkodie as part of BET’s Hip-Hop Awards cypher.

Jean Grae encouraged listeners to stop saying “femcee” in her cypher rhyme, while international rapper Sarkodie spit in his native language. Ab-Soul was next to take the focus, rocking his TDE cap and spitting, “So fly I don’t need no feet.”

Talib Kweli was last to spit in the cypher, outright criticizing BET for never playing any of his videos or giving his songs shine. “I’m Frank Ocean at a Chick-fil-A, I’ll never get served,” he rapped at the end.

      1. cumstains on titty meat son’s correct except most dudes can’t fucking rap in 2012 either… then there’s Talib who can but is goddamn impossible to listen to.

    1. Everyone was nice but Talib stole the cypher with that swipe at BET. Ironic y’all really want him at the awards but never give him spins on 106 or promote his new material.

      P.S.- BRING BACK RAP CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2. I cant wait to see this cypher, I like the artists chosen to be apart of it this year. I love how Sarkodie rapped in his own language as well. I knew I couldnt miss this years award show, so when my DISH coworker reminded me that it was going to be on tonight, I quickly set up a timer on my phone for it to record at home, using the DISH Remote Access app. Its convenient because I can also watch live and recorded shows all from my phone.

    3. white folks love Talib because he’s so non-threatening… too bad the fucking bum can’t rap with any flair, funk or soul and is about 1/10th as “smart” as he things he is, fronting ig’nant dumbfuck.

NOBODY loves Jean Grae, not even her vastly more talented mother or father.

    4. This was the best one this year.

I’m a fan of Jean Grae so I wasn’t surprised by her phenomenal verse at all. I do wish that her energy was a bit higher though. It’s one thing to come off too-cool-for-school, it’s another thing to come off just straight up bored.

I heard of AB-Soul before but never got to take notice (because there’s a new emcee coming out every minute, it’s hard to keep up with everybody). This made me officially sold. He’s brilliant and sharp. I’m very impressed.

Talib had the most memorable verse out of all the cyphers this year. I’m rarely ever disappointed by him.

    5. finally a cypher with fucking top notch lyricism.. the rest were mostly wack.. altho hop and the youngns were pretty tight.. coulda used more energy though ala SH last year

    6. Talib and Jean Grae are not under Blackground records, the label ran by Aaliyah’s uncle, they are under BLACKSMITH records which is Talib’s independent label.
