Q-Tip Signs To Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music, Preps “The Last Zulu” LP For 2013

Q-Tip has announced his signing to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam.

According to a press release, Tip is working on his fourth solo album, tentatively titled The Last Zulu, due in 2013. More details regarding the LP will be announced in the forthcoming months.

The veteran rapper/producer shared his excitement for reconnecting with Barry Weiss, Chairman and CEO of Universal Republic and Island Def Jam, who worked with A Tribe Called Quest to release projects in the ‘90s. “I’m excited to be a part of the great iconic Def Jam label,” said Q-Tip. “I’m humbled to be a part of such a storied history.  To reconnect with Barry Weiss is a great thing. As far as G.O.O.D. Music, I’m excited to solidify my working relationship with Kanye, and I look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead in our partnership. I will do my best to present the most cutting edge music I can.”

Weiss shared similar sentiments. “I am thrilled to be working with Q-Tip once again,” said Weiss.  “He is a respected voice in the music community as shown by his acclaimed solo albums and countless contributions to the work of other artists.  His creativity continues to surpass all boundaries of hip-hop, R&B, pop, and jazz. We welcome Q-Tip to the G.O.O.D. Music / Island Def Jam family.”

    1. YEAH THIS ALBUM AINT GOING TO SELL BUT I GUESS ITS A GOOD LOOK FOR Q TIP TO SIGN TO THE NIGA WHO WEAR SKIRTS. KANYE BETTER GIVE DJ KHALED 4 SONGS FOR KHALEDS ALBUM KISS THE RING

    2. I guess that’s a good fit for him.. but my thing is…

You think if you’ve been in the game as long as Busta, Q-TIp and Juicy J.. you’d be in BOSS POSITIONS of your own.. not signing to those who came after you.

It’s like being 40 and working for a 16 year old manager at McDonalds.

      No disrespect but damn!

      1. I think that the reason that those figures aren’t in control of their own label is because that’s probably not their thing and don’t want to deal with the red tape. If you remember Busta had Flipmode and Juicy J was apart of Hypnotized Minds, and both folded in a way. And as for Q-Tip, he’s always been more towards the “Artist” side of the Music business and not the Corporate.

      2. Busta has already proven he’s about the shittiest career manager ever. I’d let Bernie Madoff manage my career before Busta. Love the man as a artist tho.

      3. Business is politics, it’s Barry Weiss that’s the CEO and Chairman not Kanye West. G.O.O.D. Music is under Def Jam. The same person Too Short and Chuck D put on blast. Just type in “Barry Weiss” on HipHopDX and look at the last 4 articles.

      4. Yea i agree but tip needs to pull his head out of his ass and bring back tribe a new album would be sick

    3. this should fuel cons to release some sort of b.s.

sad, but time will tell. thinking we’ll hear from him about this.

    4. Lol Q tip was dope back in the days but now. Come on its 2012 and not 1990 album will be a flop in sales and quality.

Remember when q tip did that horrible poprap record its a vivrant thing?

      1. and Vivrant Thing was from ’99…get a little more up to date with your hip-hop knowledge and then comment

      2. @dockevoc Exactly. And he’s talking about something released over a decade ago, Anonymous needs to get relevant with its random comments and jewels of wisdom

      3. niggas these days will cosign anything these days as long as you tell them it was made in 1998. but if you tell them it was made last month they will say its techno. typicial hater ass zombie mentality.

        i still like qtip though.

      4. @Anonymous Who is co-signing something that was made in 1998? We’re saying that you are irrelevant because you are commenting without proper knowledge. I was actually co-signing his work from 2008, you are a decade off. Fuck your Generation until they die off in this New Era

      5. yeah vivrant thing wasn’t the most lyrical joint, but I can’t lie, i love it when it comes on in the rare occasion that i’m at a club that plays decent hip hop. didn’t dilla produce that track? either way, tip is an absolute legend. even without tribe, he produced maybe the greatest hip hop song of all time, in my opinion: nas’s “one love.” and his remix of “the world is yours” is incredible too

      6. I wasnt even talking to you E i was talking about the general non album buying fake hip hop head populous.

    5. Good move for Tip. He’s truly one of the illest MC’s ever and he’s not too bad on the boards. I think Kanye will put a nice push into this project

    6. Pretty funny to me that all of a sudden Barry Weiss is changing his tune. After Too Short and Chuck D put him on blast for stopping conciousness from succeeding in Hip-Hop…he’s gonna sign Q-Tip again? The man responsible for basically breaking up Tribe, in the first place (watch the documentary)?

      1. The documentary didn’t really say shit that I remember. It vaguely aluded to label issues being the problem but didn’t give any why, what, or how. It came off to me more as Tip’s decision than anything.

    7. Thanks to those who reminded me about just who Barry Weiss is. I totally forgot.

      Fuck Barry Weiss.

Now to this deal. Good move for Q-Tip. Great move for Kanye.

Did Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) sign with G.O.O.D. as well or is that still in the works?

I hate that Jay Electronica didn’t use his damn sense and didn’t sign to Kanye. Kanye would have been the best look for him simply cause Kanye is going to let dude be himself and allow him to just do his thing AND release the LP. Jigga…well you see what’s going on. Heck it’s not even close who’s more relevant and is the biggest star now. Jay Elect fucked up bad.

Kanye is slowly making a nice diverse roster…albeit he has some artists I don’t particularly care for (Big Sean and CyHi the Prince). Man Jay Elect fucked up. (shaking my head)

    8. I always liked tip and with kanye beats or tip making beats for others in the squad I think they will make some dope shit…but well have to wait and see

    9. Big Up To The Abstract Poet , man this is a collab made from heaven….QTIP ON A KANYE TRACK? CLASSIC SHIT!

    10. Q Tip isn’t going to be able to relate to the younger demographic, but more power to him. Alot of old school cats would kill to have this opportunity.

      1. Your right. He will appeal to the mature crowd that still buys music. QTip fans supported him for his last two solo projects and this one will only increase is marketing and promotion. Who care what the young kids want, they just want to have fun while the mature crowd want relaxation, relief, and good vibes. Yall nigga can have lil wayne, casey, chief kief, and all the rest of them lame ass artist.

      2. Hell Yeah! Lookin forward to this co-lab. Im in my 20’s & been vibe’n to the real dopeness my whole life. I really could give ‘a mutha’Fuck about that which iz made to appeal to some tenny boop’n lames.
far as it go, funny.style.money.billi is Jokes (shameful)
        !!!Step Yo Game Up!!!

    11. Now all they need is his old friend Talib Kweli…Get him to make another “Beautiful Struggle” type album.

      1. Beautiful Struggle sucked donkey balls. EarDrum is Kweli’s best album to day (outside of reflection eternal which is techicaly not a solo album)

      1. Yeah, I was wondering that too. I’m hoping it’s not Kanye’s doing so it’ll have more mass appeal. If anything, I’m hoping they keep it hiphop like what Kanye did for Common’s Be.

    12. G.O.O.D music = best label right now. And ALL the artists are getting their shine. Most labels haven’t even released their entire roster that have been waiting since being signed years ago…

    13. Kanye’s still got it, but he needs to ditch all this materialistic/arrogant garbage he’s putting out.

MBDTF is an exception but WTT had too much bragging and boasting about wealth and decadence. Bring it back to Spaceship, All Falls Down, Addiction and even Dark Fantasy. His beats are still hot, but the substance of his subject matter is very poor as of late.

      1. I could not have said it better. I fucks with YE’ tough but dude thinks he CESAR of Rome right now. That Theraflu track was like the emperors new clothes… an invisible outfit that everyone ranted and raved about because of the controversy but in reality was just average with a lot of hype.

    14. The younger kids are the one’s with parents who give them money to buy CD’s. He’s gonna have to hope WOM is ridiculous.

      1. U actin’ like older people don’t buy music. U really think young kids are buying those Jay-Z, Kanye and Raekwon CDs? C’mon son.

Aye Kanye, where’s your “Songs To The Key Of Life”? ROFL
