Freeway recently took a trip to Canada but faced an unusual situation when he got to the customs official. After the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native was pulled from line, an official challenged his Islamic faith after looking at his passport.
“They pulled me out of line for customs and I was in line for like an hour waiting and they just wanted to ask me some questions,” he told The Come Up Show. “So when I got to the front, the guy looked at my passport. I’ve been to Saudi Arabia a couple times, so I got stamps from Saudi Arabia. He was like, ‘When were you in Saudi Arabia?’ I told him when I was there. He was like, ‘You’re Muslim? Why are you Muslim?’ I said that I studied, my father was Muslim, I felt as though that it’s the right religion for me. It’s a beautiful religion, it’s beautiful.”
Whereas the situation could have taken a turn for the worse, Free explained that it was an eye-opening experience.
“It really touched me. He was like, ‘It’s beautiful but if something comes along that’s more beautiful than that, are you gon’ take that?’ That made a lot of sense,” he continued. “I told him, ‘It just makes sense. Islam makes sense to me. Everything clicks.’ And he was like, ‘Ah, that’s the answer right there.’ It was such a good feeling. You know, when you come through immigration, I was upset already because they took me out the line and was taking time out my day, but I was patient. I’m expecting them to be on some other stuff when I get up there, and he was Muslim. At the end, he was like ‘As-Salamu Alayka, brother,’ and I was like, ‘Wa alayka s-salam.’ It was good.”
