Last week, Kid Cudi debuted the Shia LeBouf-directed video for his song “Marijuana,” off The Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager. Now, in a recent interview with MTV, the former Lonely Stoner talks about the process that went into making the video. He said that the video, which was shot at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam where he was a judge, was a last hurrah for his days of smoking that sticky-icky.

“Something I decided before [was that] I decided to quit smoking marijuana,” he explained. “However, I didn’t want to deprive people of the footage…[and] the video because of my personal decisions. It was almost like an R.I.P. video to my whole smoking career, because that was a big, big, memorable moment for me and watching it reminds me of those good times we had…it’s kind of like the last hurrah, the last time you’ll ever see me smoking, and it was like the peak. People were like, ‘Why’d you quit?’ It’s like, ‘Man, you know, I’ve been doing it for a while.’ I went to Amsterdam. It doesn’t get much higher than that.”

Cudi also discussed his decision to quit smoking weed, which he announced this past April. He said that the decision came out of his desire to become more mature in his life. He also added that if fans can’t respect his personal desicion to quit, then they are not his real fans.

“There were a lot of write-ups where people were just shitting on it and there were a lot of people who were like, ‘We liked you better when you were on drugs,'” he said. “It’s kinda like, ‘Man, OK, well you weren’t a fan to begin with so fuck you,’ and I like myself better off drugs. So it’s about me and it’s about evolving and it’s about change. It’s about becoming a man; it’s about becoming mature.”
