DX News Bits: Andre Harrell, Underground Music Awards

    Music entrepreneur Andre Harrell, in conjunction with Radio One Atlanta and Atlantic Records, will be holding his “Superstar Soul Search” competition finals in Atlanta on July 31.

    Over the next two weeks one semi-finalist will be chosen from six different regional cities, as well as one national semi-finalist, to compete for $10,000 and a recording contract on Harrell Entertainment, distributed through Atlantic Records.

    In other news, the nominees for the 8th Annual Underground Music Awards have recently been revealed.

    Spanning over 30 different categories, among this years’ long list of nominees include J. Cole, Eternia, Tanya Morgan, Trae The Truth and DXnext alum David E. Beats.

    Upon hearing of his nominations, Beats told DX in statement, “I couldn’t attend the UMA last year and this year I’m nominated twice! It’s great that there is an actual platform at the disposal of indie artists to showcase our talent and celebrate our accomplishments.”

    Voting begins tonight, with the full list of nominees listed here. The 8th Annual Underground Music Awards will take place August 22 at BB Kings in New York.
