Ice Spice Explains Why She Turned Down ‘XXL’ Freshman Cover

Ice Spice‘s schedule would indicate that she’s made a lot of progress since releasing “Munch” last year, which might explain why she didn’t appear on XXL‘s Freshman 2023 list.

According to TMZ Hip Hop, sources connected to the situation confirmed that Ice Spice had to pull out of the project despite being thrilled with the idea. The rapper allegedly declined a spot on the annual magazine cover because she’s been “blitzed with festival bookings and feature requests.”

The sources noted her busy schedule made it difficult to lock her in for Freshman requirements.

The list, which was unveiled on Wednesday (June 21), features rising stars like Finesse2Tymes, GloRilla, and Lola Brooke, among others.

While she wasn’t a part of XXL‘s coveted freshman list, she did end up being Teen Vogue‘s latest cover girl. During the interview, Ice Spice addressed the claims that she only blew up due to her being lighter-skinned.

“I have seen those opinions,” she told Teen Vogue. “I feel like that’s not something personal to me. I feel like that’s been the conversation for generations and forever, since the beginning of time.”

On the music front, it appears that Ice Spice is thriving.

Chart Data recently reported that the Bronx rapper has earned the most Top 5 hits this year, scoring big with three chart juggernauts: “Karma” featuring Taylor Swift, which currently sits at No.2 on the chart; “Princess Diana” featuring Nicki Minaj, which peaked at No. 4; and “Boy’s A Liar” featuring PinkPantheress, which topped out at No. 3.

Her wins don’t stop there. Last month it was reported that Ice Spice broke a record held by Nicki Minaj.

According to Chart Data, the red-haired rapper earned the biggest streaming debut for a female rapper in global Spotify history thanks to “Karma.”

The song, which was released at the end of last month as a bonus track on Swift’s new deluxe album Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition), racked up 5.036 million streams on the platform on its first day. That figure propelled “Karma” to No. 5 on the global Spotify chart, making it the top new entry.

Mfers really out here worshipping total garbage these days. I know times do change and stuff can’t always be the way they once were but it’s become laughable at this point with these talentless hacks.
