Ice Spice seemingly came out of nowhere with her smash single “Munch” in 2022, but she’s actually been training for this moment in the spotlight her entire life.
The Bronx rapper graced the cover of Paper Magazine on Wednesday (April 12), and opened up about her family life a bit during the interview. Though she wants to keep the lives of her relatives private, Ice did reveal that her father was an underground rapper who has been teaching her the ropes since she was young.
“He definitely inspired me to want to record,” she said. “I remember being in the studio with him. I was a toddler, probably. And I remember little flashes. Of course, not every detail, but small things like that being shown to you at such a young age make an impression on you.”
She continued: “Subconsciously, I ended up becoming an artist because I saw my father be one first. He’s a music lover himself. He’s a true Hip Hop head, beyond me, honestly. He knows everything. He’s always educating me on Hip Hop and shit like that.”
The Paper cover is one of many accolades Ice Spice has received as of late. Earlier this month, the “Boy’s A Liar” rapper landed her first modeling gig, being tapped by Marc Jacobs for the celebrated fashion brand’s new ‘Heaven’ campaign.
The shoot went down in Los Angeles last month with photographer Harley Weir. The collection heavily reflects the early 2000s style that is currently back in trend, with Ice Spice even toting a remake of Paris Hilton’s cufflinks bag that became her staple in the early aughts.
The Heaven collection includes cheerleader-inspired mini dresses, pink netted cover-ups, star-printed tees and tank tops, a full range of accessories and more. Lil Uzi Vert was also tapped for the campaign, as well as actor Liv Tyler, the aforementioned Paris Hilton and more.
The first drop is out now, with another drop scheduled in May.
On the same day the Marc Jacobs campaign launched, the Bronx native was announced as a performer on Hot 97’s 2023 Summer Jam lineup alongside acts like Cardi B, French Montana, Fivio Foreign, Lil Tjay, The LOX, GloRilla and more. It will be Ice Spice’s first Summer Jam.
Taught her what? How to be a wack af “rapper”? The industry plant Ronald mcDonald can’t rap. Only clueless teenagers and the LGBTQ community check for her microwave music. I rather listen to alarm clocks beeping than listen to this talentless trash.
I guess being a Lesbian automatically means you like mainstream Hip-Hop. Makes a lot of sense…
Forget what the person above me said I agree she can’t rap its all mumbles and clueless lyrics but she pretty tho these days looks all it takes
You’re a gay, severely hearing deficient, bar really low, lame mfer. We get it.
Who’s her dad ?
He’s a talentless nobody just like she is
Greg Nice
Greg Nice was a mainstream rapper tho
Greg Nice was definitely main stream. Urgh. We need old heads to take over this journalism game.
Greg Spice/Spice and Smooth were the original names so he blessed his daughter with the name. Yall dont know shit b.
That’s literally not true. Some simple research would tell u that’s not her dad. He doesn’t have the same last name. He wasn’t dropping music while she was a “toddler”. Like Wtf are y’all even talking about? Greg nice doesn’t have children either??? He also would’ve been 33 when her mom was 17
You people take everything so serious. I clearly made this up bc ICE rhymes with NICE. No need to calculate ages. I forget you slow mountain and countryman don’t have a sense of humor or sarcasm. Fucking nerds LOL
stop hatin cuz you understand NY rap FOH
Greg Nice was with Nice and Smooth and he rapped in an era where everything was mainstream because it was new. Y’all just be on here saying anything sounded clueless ASF.
