Ice Spice Responds To ‘Industry Plant’ Allegations

Ice Spice has undeniably experienced one of the quickest ascents to stardom in the annals of Hip Hop. Consequently, the “Deli” lyricist’s achievements have been subject to scrutiny.

In a recent interview with Variety following an appearance at the 2023 MTV VMAs, the princess of rap revealed how she’s managed the whisperings she’s an industry plant, admitting that at first the rumors were hurtful.

“A lot of people have thrown that in my face — like ‘Oh, I’ve never seen anything happen so quickly. She needs to be studied,’ or ‘She’s a plant,’” Ice Spice (real name Isis Naija Gaston) told the publication.

She added, “I just let people believe whatever they want to believe, to be honest. I don’t really mind all the rumors. At first, I did, but now I’m at a point where I understand that just comes with this lifestyle.”

Love her or hate her, the abundance of criticism hasn’t slowed Ice Spice’s rise. Earlier this month, the 23-year-old who has collaborated with the likes of Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, nabbed the Best New Artist title at the aforementioned award show — beating out beat out GloRillaKaliii, Peso Pluma, PinkPantheress and Reneé Rapp.

“Thank you so much. Thank you MTV. Oh my God, this is so cool,” the Bronx native began tearfully, before shouting out her fervent fanbase. “I just want to thank my Munchkins. I love you guys so much.”

“I want to thank my manager James [Rosemond Jr.]. I want to thank my producer Riot for making the best music with me. Shout out to all the other nominees in this category. I want to thank my label 10K and Capitol for always supporting me. And of course God. Without God none of this would be possible,” she added.

In the late summer of 2022, Ice Spice rose to fame when her song “Munch (Feelin’ U)” went viral on TikTok. Following collaborations with PinkPantheress on “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2”; Nicki Minaj on “Princess Diana” and “Barbie Girl”; and Taylor Swift on a “Karma” remix, the curly-coifed rapper has become a household name.

    1. A talentless nobody who shakes her ass like hundreds of other female “rappers” who’s known for boring live performances but somehow drops a song with Taylor swifts famous/racist ass is somehow not an industry plant? Yeah, whatever you say

      1. Blah blah blah Illuminati blah blah my life sucks blah blah blah it’s someone else’s fault blah blah blah Illuminati blah blah blah it’s a conspiracy that my life sucks blah blah blah

FOH tin foil hat head dunce.

      2. so now taylor swift is racist? you guys have killed the meaning of the word. by you guys i mean black people.

      3. So she wasn’t dating a racist before breaking up with him after allegations and in the same week dropped a song with a talentless black girl? Man, you white people would take a bullet for Taylor ‘she’ll never fuck you’ Swift. Why does the word racist hurt white people so much. Oh yeah, white guilt, I forgot

    2. Funny thing is, she won’t or doesn’t know that shes a plant (and she is!).
Dumb winch think that God (Big G) is just blessing her with the opportunityto portray a wh. ore to the masses. 🤣🤣🤣

      Talk about deception

    3. I never understood the term “industry plant” its like some stupid gen z shit. Every rapper with a record deal is an industry plant because its the industry’s job to plant seeds and watch them grow. That included Pac, Biggie, Wayne, etc. Somebody from the music industry found them and “planted” them, and they grew. Whether or not their music sucks is another story.

      1. An industry plant isn’t just someone who isn’t talented, it’s someone forced down everyone’s throats knowing uneducated idiots will listen to it and think it’s good. The industry writes their music and even puts them on tracks with already famous people who would probably never work with them if they looked passed the dollar signs. There’s bands and even rap groups of people who openly said they never each met the other members of their group until their label said “hey you 3 (4,5,6 whatever) you’re now working together as a group because that’s the only way you guys will have a career and make money, and your stupid ass is talking about there’s no industry plants. Keep your dumbass off this site. You’re officially banned for being a jackass
