Ice Spice only shot to fame a couple of years ago, but she’s already proven herself worthy of the coveted “King of New York” crown — according to A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.
During an appearance on Adin Ross‘ latest Kick stream on Tuesday (February 27), the Bronx rapper declared that the “Munch” star is currently the hottest name in the Big Apple.

When asked who he thinks the current King of New York is, A Boogie replied: “Ice Spice got it right now … I feel like Ice is just wildin’ right now. She got it right now.”
Ross then suggested that the two rappers should link up for a song, to which A Boogie was receptive: “For real, though.”

The “Drowning” hitmaker also offered his definition of the “King of New York,” saying: “I feel like the people, the fans, make it that. I never really forced that on people. I was never on songs like, ‘I’m the King of New York.’
“It was a lot of people that was out here doing that and made people give their opinions. But on my end, that shit just fell in my lap. I’m just doing my thing. I like making fire music. The beauty of it is being able to sell out arenas.”

Ice Spice arguably has a case for the current title. Since storming onto the scene with her breakout single “Much (Feelin’ U)” in 2022, the curly-haired rapper has proven she’s far from a one-hit wonder by scoring a string of Hot 100 hits such as “Deli,” “Princess Diana” with Nicki Minaj and, most recently, “Think U the Shit (Fart).”
She has also built a growing collection of awards and accolades, winning Best New Artist at the 2023 MTV VMAs and Best Breakthrough Hip-Hop Artist at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards.

Despite A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s nomination, the “King of New York” debate is one that is truly never settled.
Back in 2022, both 6ix9ine and Fivio Foreign laid a claim to the throne, sparking a brief spat between the two rappers.

“5 Billboards in Times Square, Top 5 songs in NY on Apple at once, & articles in both Daily News & NY Times.. Don’t ever let that n-gga say he the King Of this city,” Fivio bragged on social media at the time, jabbing his rainbow-haired counterpart.
“Didn’t his best friend just get shot in his head a month ago?” he said. “He worried about billboards in Times Square…”
A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie thrust his own name into the conversation in 2020 with his song “King of My City,” but later admitted he still had a long way to go until he could rightfully claim the throne.
“I have the stats, but I’m not finished,” he said in an interview with Billboard. “I practiced, but I didn’t master it. I mastered recording, I mastered certain things, but I didn’t master everything yet. I still have some time to go, you know?”

He added: “You can’t just do one thing one year, two years, it’s a process. That’s what I always say when people ask me why you’re not so confident when people say you’re the King of New York. But when the time come, I’m really gonna know.
“Realistically, I’m not there yet. I still have some growing [to do]. Until I feel comfortable to say it, I’m not saying it.”
