Ice Cube Trolled By His Son Over ‘It Was A Good Day’ Reference

Ice Cube‘s son has trolled his rap star father over a lyric on his classic hit “It Was A Good Day,” and it looks like the internet is here for it.

The moment went down on Twitter on Thursday (April 13), when an eager fan asked the Cocaine Bear actor to tell the Twitterverse something interesting about his father.

Jackson replied: “He once kept up with his statistics during a random pickup game with his friends. And he won’t stop telling people about it.”

The response was a dig at Cube for the lyric: “Called up the homies, and I’m askin’ y’all/ Which park, are y’all playin’ basketball?/ Get me on the court and I’m trouble/ Last week fucked around and got a triple-double/ Freakin’ n-ggas every way like MJ.”

Jackson’s Twitter followers understood the reference immediately, with one person commenting: “This is very good.”

“Must’ve been a pleasant day overall I take it,” wrote another, while a third said: “I mean when you fuck around and get a triple-double. I’d say it was a good day.”

“It Was A Good Day” dropped in 1993 as the second single off Cube’s third album The Predator. The track peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Cube’s highest charting single to date.

Recently, Logic showed love for the song by performing what ended up being a divisively melodic cover of the single. While some Logic fans were content hearing the Maryland rapper sing through the track, Cube’s son chimed in on the conversation and said Logic needed to stop singing his father’s song immediately.

“I respect logic,” Jackson tweeted on March 7. “I think he can rap. And that’s all I really need. But bruh….if if ever hear you sing about my mother again… it’s gone be a misunderstanding lmaoooo!”

On the music side of things, Cube, Snoop Dogg, E-40 and Too $hort dropped off their debut album as Mount Westmore in December. Titled Snoop, Cube, 40, $hort, the project appeared on streaming after initially being available via blockchain under the title Bad MFs last summer. The streaming version includes additional tracks not featured on the previous release.

“You know what it is,” Cube said at the time of Bad MFs‘ release. “Mount Westmore — you got the four pillars of West Coast Hip Hop. We are down with Gala Music. We are coming out with that Mount Westmore Bad MFs album. There is going to be new music, new experiences, shows, everything that the Westmore got, baby, you gonna get it.”
