According to Variety, rapper and movie mogul Ice Cube [click to read] will soon executive produce and write a new cop comedy for NBC.
The title for the new show remains unknown, but Ice Cube will share his role as executive producer with Matt Alvarez, who works with his production company Cube Vision.
For the past few years, Ice Cube has gained a substantial amount of production experience. He has produced several movies including Are We There Yet? and The Longshots, and he went on to executive produce Showtime‘s television version of the movie Barbershop.
“As we continue to expand our roster of diverse talent both on-camera and behind the camera, a guy like Ice Cube, who’s multi-talented, is someone we really wanted to be in business with,” said Ben Silverman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios chairman. “He’s had an amazing career, to have gone from NWA to this.”
Ice Cube has yet to reveal if he will make an appearance on the show.
“We really want to capture his voice and his eye for talent, and his producing acumen. If he appeared in the pilot or series, we’d be really excited about that.” Silverman explained.
Although Ice Cube has been doing a lot of producing, the former NWA member is still making music; he released his latest album Raw Footage [click to read] in August.
