Ice Cube Explains N.W.A’s Impact On Eminem & “South Park”

Ice Cube says that N.W.A‘s impact is larger than the music industry.

“We just wanted to be ourselves,” Cube says, according to Billboard. “That opened up a door for artists like Eminem, for people to produce things like South Park, where it’s raw and edgy.”

South Park is a Comedy Central television show that first aired in 1997 and follows four friends through elementary school in the mountain town of South Park, Colorado. It is known for its controversial content, including an episode in which they mocked Kanye West.

Eminem signed with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath in 1998 and started his own imprint, Shady Records. The Detroit rapper is known for pushing boundaries with his lyrics.

N.W.A caught the attention of the nation in the late 1980s and early 1990s with its song “Fuck Tha Police” and its portrayal of inner-city life in its music.

    1. Did he really just take credit for influencing South Park? WTF?

South Park was created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker who were college buddies in Colorado. When they were young they heard lots of urban legends and crazy stories coming out of a REAL local town nearby called “South Park.” Shit like alien abductions, people disappearing, etc. It got a reputation as a crazy town where crazy shit happened. They also made a little cartoon project called The Spirit of Christmas (it’s on YouTube) and it looks like shit but they eventually turned that into an entire show called South Park and gave it to Comedy Central.

Ice Cube is a good rapper and a great influence in the hip-hop culture, but he can’t take credit for helping two crazy white boys tell dick and fart jokes and making millions. There’s no connection. What’s next, is he gonna say Howard Stern listened to “Straight Outta Compton” and wanted to get into radio?

      1. thats what they do, they claim ownership of everything, from every religion down to the origin of man, they started it all

      2. It’s true tho. NWA censorship would still have been thru the roof. NWA broke down doors to allow new acts like eminent and South Park to shine. Obviously if NWA didn’t do it, somebody else would have. It’ just so happened that it was NWA that did it first no need to get mad just appreciate history and what they’ve done period

    2. Did they really make an article on one sentence? And then explain who Eminem and South Park is! I hate this site more than ever.

    3. I don’t think NWA really opened doors for for anyone. Eminem would’ve still found a way to get in the industry through dre or someone else. But dre definitely helped him a lot.

    4. Em wouldn’t be shit without dre nobody fucked with em before dre unless u was listening to the outsiders or shit off of rawkus label so em own dre his life n.w.a was the first shit he listen 2 thanx 2 his uncle for put him on a plus he went to l.a to find dre n.w.a album is selling more because pale face teenagers now of days are intrigued by n.w.a even more so understand n.w.a legacy because I live thru it

      1. Eminem would have found a way to make it even if he never signed with Dr Dre, he is way to talented to not have been unnoticed.

    5. South Park, which mocks Kanye West…… was that added to make South Park seem relevant to Hip Hop? Wow. Y’all aren’t even trying anymore…

    6. is that frumpy old man trying to act like they were the first people in music to be honest and controversial? This is just embarrassing.

    7. hmm might just ban this site from loading, tryna gain views from clickbait that isnt even mentioned in the article.

    8. Is it necessary to give us a “history” of South Park when it’s still active and been going for 18 years now? Are we that dumb? I’m not. Are your normal readers that dumb? I hope not. It’s called Comedy Central. It’s been showing the same series for 18 fucking years. I don’t need a history of 4 kids, unless it’s a biography.

    9. Those that are irritated here need to work on their Reading comprehension. I know the article is short and poorly written; and South Park and Em are explained more than Ice Cube’s comment but c’mon! “That opened up a door for artists like Eminem, for people to produce things like South Park, where it’s raw and edgy.” Says nothing about influencing, discovering, producing Em or SouthPark. He is simply implying that N.W.A affected the barriers of censorship on a greater scale so that later on, stuff like South Park and Eminem could make it to a (inter)national spotlight with less barriers along the way. Pipe down!

    10. this is not an article!!! this POST is built around a shit quote that consists of only 2 sentences and padding that is not news to anyone. fucking seriously?!?!?
