Ice Cube has offered some background into the making of the widely planned adaptation of War of the Worlds.
Speaking to Kai Cenat, the rapper and actor spoke about the infamous but viral version of the classic story which has received universally negative reviews.
Cube said: “This is a movie I did in 2020 during the pandemic. We shot it in 15 days, and it was during the pandemic. So the director wasn’t in there. None of the actors was in there. This was the only way we could really shoot the movie.”
The Friday star also said that the film used real surveillance footage: “All the footage is from real surveillance cameras all around the world. So they had to build all that and then collect and edit the footage.”

50 recently mocked the reception Cube’s movie received from fans and critics.
He wrote on Instagram: “0 % how you get a 0 percent rating. Nah somebody mad at cube. Now I’m scared to watch it LOL.”
A 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes means not a single professional film critic has given the movie a positive review.
The classic story, originally based on HG Wells’ 1898 novel of the same name, saw Cube play a top cyber-security analyst for Homeland Security, who spends his days tracking potential threats to national security through a mass surveillance program, until an attack by an unknown entity leads him to question whether the government is hiding something from him and the rest of the world.
The twist on the story is that the vast majority of the film will be set on computer and phone screens with the trailer showing most of the action taking place from a desk Ice Cube is sat at.
The rap legend turned actor is joined in the cast by Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria and The Avengers actor Clark Gregg.
Cube recently announced that he had secured a deal with Warner Bros. for a new Friday sequel.
New Line’s COO Richard Brenner confirmed the news in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying: “We are making another Friday. We just closed a deal with Ice Cube to write and star. It’s going to be called Last Friday.”
