As part of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music production company, Hit-Boy has been able to work on this month’s Cruel Summer extensively. That work has taken the producer/rapper to various places and it has also allowed him to grow as an artist. Hit-Boy recently spoke with HipHopDX about that growth, his work with Kanye West and his upcoming material with Kendrick Lamar.
“We got to do a lot of traveling,” Hit-Boy said when asked about his experience working on G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer. “We went to London. We went to Qatar and a few different places [to work on the album]. So, just the traveling alone was amazing. Then, having the opportunity to grow with Kanye [West] and learn from him is a surreal experience.”
Hit-Boy continued by explaining how Kanye West is a perfectionist, making sure everyone puts their best into every song, even if they have to redo a few things.
“You’ve gotta be fresh. You gotta be different every time,” he says of what he’s learned from Kanye. “He’s made me re-tweak beats. He’s made me rewrite verses and everything. It’s never right the first time.”
His work has also allowed him to work with emcees outside of the G.O.O.D. Music circle. One of those emcees is Kendrick Lamar.
According to Hit-Boy, his work with Kendrick will be “different.”
“Kendrick [Lamar], man. We’ve got a really crazy record together. He’s spazzing on it. It’s club. It’s radio. It’s Hip Hop. I’m hyped about that…He’s swaggin’. It’s different from Kendrick, for sure.”
next thing you know, Kanye be wearin’ another fur coat producing music in Antartica
“tell PETA my mink is dragging on the snow”
AHAHA too funny dude!
LOL FOREVER
I remember him having Pusha T rewrite a verse over 20 times.. think it was Runaway
Runaway was out before GOOD Music was fucking with Hit-Boy.
He’s talking about Kanye’s perfectionism – West made Pusha rewrite over 20 times.
Good to see “In-House” means everyone popular, Kendrick Lamar is a dumb ass. This years J.Cole i promise.
And it makes you in the same exact place as last year… Nowhere.
Looks like going to exotic places to record music isn’t a very good thing to do.
Hit-Boy is aight, not the biggest fan of his work but I did like Goldie. In terms of Kendrick, mark my words people are gonna be for real mad at Kendrick for this album, first and foremost he has many noteworthy features and secondly he has producers other than DigiPhonics. I guess he feels that lying is the only way to ensure the surprise of the album (which honestly is a good marketing scheme). Ive heard a snippet of a song called My Way featuring Lloyd as well as a song that will be on there featuring Drake called Money Treez. The truth of the matter is that as fans yall should stand by him, its his first Interscope debut, first transition from the underground to the mainstream, it will sound nothing like Section#80 and its more of what you hear from the EP. Im just a fan of good music and if im wrong come find this post in 20 something days and call me out for being a stan, but this album is going to surprise people for the better.
I’ve never understood why an artist can’t do mixtapes and a label album WITHOUT getting hated on for it.
Kendrick never said it was exclusively Digi+Phonics.
