Hit-Boy Reacts To Congress Bill Forcing Streaming Services To Increase Artist Payouts

Hit-Boy has offered his opinion on a new bill that will force streaming services to increase artist payouts, and he’s not impressed by the solution.

The producer took to Instagram on Thursday (March 7) and posted a screenshot featuring news of the bill. The headline of the story said that Apple and Spotify might be forced to pay artist one cent per stream.

Hit-Boy reacted to this news with a caption that showed the raise was less impactful than he would have hoped.

“they saying we fighting for a penny,” he wrote.

Some commenters were quick to break down the economics of such a bill.

One user wrote: “Y’all complaining but this is over a 300% pay raise and raises every indie artist up to a $12.50/album rate.”

According to Billboard, the bill was brought to Congress by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) who proposed using a fund to raise artists’ streaming royalties from their current fractions of a penny rate. Money for the increase would come from an additional fee equivalent to 50% of the subscription price on every streaming subscription. The hike would cost customers an extra $4 to $10 per month.

“We do not play Beyonce on KYKC as we are a country music station,” read an email in response to the fan, who then shared the interaction on Twitter/X.

Calling the refusal discrimination, the fan who goes by the handle @Jussatto wrote: “This station needs to be held accountable for their blatant racism and discrimination against Beyoncé. @1001KYKC This is absolutely ridiculous and racist. You guys should be ashamed. I grew up listening to your station. PLEASE EMAIL THE RADIO STATION TO REQUEST THE SONG.”

When Hit-Boy saw a post about the controversy from Popbase, he took a screenshot of it and shared it to his Instagram with the caption: “TELL EM PLAY TEXAS” He then added in the comments, “Real country [fire emoji].”
