HiPNOTT Records, the Florida-based label run by Hip Hop website founder Kevin Nottingham announced this weekend that it has signed a digital distribution deal with New York-based Soulspazm Records. HiPNOTT just released Mode 7, the latest work from Queens, New York emcee Junclassic & The Jazz Spastiks. Previously, the label has released physical and digital works from Spectac & Amiri and Cymarshall Law, among others.
Veteran label Soulspazm has released albums from artists such as Torae, Hezekiah, Malcolm & Martin, as well as Roots affiliate Dice Raw.
HiPNOTT Records will continue to release albums physically.
I just paid $23,98 for an iPad2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $37,59 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $677 which only cost me $72,13 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentStart.com
I’m happy for him but I must admit I don’t understand these “digital distribution deals”. Why do you need another company to digitally distribute thereby taking yet another piece of the pie.
So now not only are you paying a percentage to iTunes or whatever store your music is in, you’re also paying a percentage to Soul Spazam.
Why… why you could just go through Tunecore and don’t have to deal with yet another middle man.
There must be something we don’t know about, because I wonder the exact same thing. I see the value in a physical distribution deal, but not a digital one.
Exactly….
Yeah, there is a lot more to it. Tunecore is good for what it is, but they’re not gonna get your album the type of exposure you need to sell units. Plus there are a lot of additional percentages with Tunecore. It’s not worth it on the larger scale.
BigUps to Kevin Nottingham for this move, dude’s got good taste in Hip Hop, his blog is building a name as a place where you can find quality. Putting out his own artists is only gonna solidify this dude as a major mover and shaker in the next coming years…
Oh yeah, here’s some shameless self promo
http://www.ceeoneonline.com HAHA!
Thank you sir, I appreciate that.
Good look
Kevin and HiPNOTT really earned this deal.
Kevin is a Visionary and a Hard Worker!
More than anything he is brutally honest.
Sincerity is the hardest thing to find in da music game.
Some people can’t stomach it. The ones that can deserve to win.
