Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 12/16/2006

This week on the Hip Hop charts finds Young Jeezy coming in like a
blizzard to top the charts at Number 1. The Snowman debuted at #1 this week
with his sophomore album, Inspiration: Thug Motivation. Also debuting
this week is Mary J. Blige‘s collection of hits, Reflections
which notched the #9 spot with 171K sold.  In the top 25 alone, four past
American Idol contestants find themselves among seasoned veterans with last
years winner of the show, Taylor Hicks is at #2 and Fantasia‘s
self titled album sold a respectable 132K for the 19th spot.  Ghostface
    Killah
and the Theodore Unit debut More Fish and find themselves at
    #71 with 35K sold.

Tyrese aka Black Ty and their Alter Ego landed safely
at #23 with an impressive 115K sold but Eminem‘s The Re-Up showed
little or no staying power at #13 with more than a 50% drop from last week with
150K.  Ciara’s The Evolution lost steam after its’ first
week and dropped out of the top 10, after she held the #1 spot last week, to
close at #11 while Lil Scrappy’s Bred 2 Die Born 2 Live only sold
33K in its’ second week dropping from #24 to #75.  The Clipse and Hell
    Hath No Fury
continue on the downward slope after their three weeks on the
charts starting at #14 now residing at #155 with 14K sold, but still finding
themselves ahead of the Ying Yang Twins Chemically Imbalanced at
    #163.

A few of rap’s veterans find themselves still in the top 40
after a month as Kingdom Come and The Blue Carpet Treatment enjoy
the 32nd and 38th spots respectively, but still Jay-Z is poised to sell
    platinum again with this weeks numbers.  The Konvict; Akon;
is still going strong at #16, actually outselling himself from last week with a
20% increase for 141K.  Meanwhile, holding steady at the 122nd spot is Jim
    Jones
, after six weeks he’s sold only 200K, which is still roughly 800K
short of Jay-Z, regardless, he’s given us all the Dipset Christmas
    Album
    , who can complain?

Next week we’ll see how well Nas does on Def Jam, Styles P does
after being pushed back, Clue makes a dent and if Trick Daddy is
    really Back By Thug Demand.
