Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, saw his impeachment efforts against President George W. Bush blocked by fellow lawmakers yesterday.

On Monday, the former Democratic presidential candidate introduced 35 articles of impeachment against Bush, citing the Iraq war and the mismanagement of Hurricane Katrina among other things.

“Articles of Impeachment exhibited by the House of Representatives of the United States of America, in the name of itself and of the people of the United States of America, in maintenance and support of impeachment against President George W. Bush for high crimes and misdemeanors,” he said, after taking the floor.

In addition to the current war, Kucinich also accused the president of illegally detaining prisoners without charges and failing to comply with congressional subpoenas.

Several Republican representatives walked out during the speech.

On the other side of the aisle, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has refused to back an impeachment resolution, saying the measure is likely to fail.

After Kucinich introduced his articles, the House voted 251 to 166 to send the measure to the House Judiciary Committee. The vote will likely kill the measure because—despite a mountain of evidence—impeachment proceedings would likely shut the government down and Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid believe the process would further divide the country.

The last president to be impeached was Bill Clinton, in 1998.

Another day, another endorsement for Barack Obama. This time, Magic Johnson, who has been in the headlines recently for the renewed Lakers/Celtics rivalry, is out to show his support for the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.

“This is going to be a tough, tough race, but I feel that he’s the man for the job,” Johnson said, according to a Eurweb report. “If we go with McCain, we’ll only get the same thing that we got, and right now that’s not good.”

Johnson, a loyal supporter to Hillary Clinton, recently switched to endorse Obama after Clinton accepted defeat and endorsed Obama herself. He went in deeper as to why he supported Clinton originally.

“The Clintons did more to empower African Americans and Latinos than anybody else when it wasn’t fashionable to do it,” Magic said. “So I’ve been supporting both of them a long time. I asked her to run a long time ago. So you don’t ask someone to run and then not support them. I’m happy that she ran, she ran a good race, but sometimes you end up short in the Finals.”

The Magic Man is now hoping that other Clinton supporters follow him and go with Obama, as well.

“We have to now make sure that we all rally behind [Obama], even myself, who was a Clinton supporter,” Magic continued. “That’s over with now. When she lost, that was over. I jumped right on [Obama‘s] bandwagon, I called him [and said], ‘Hey, I’m a foot soldier. What you need me to do? I’m ready to go to work.'”

For now, it is likely Magic will be tuned into the NBA Finals as the Lakers and Celtics battle it out for NBA supremacy.
