This month, Eddy Curry and Antoine Walker were victims of armed robberies in their homes. Now, the NBA is warning its players to be more cautious because of these incidents.

“Any time something has happened multiple times you want to take precautions to be sure everyone is educated,” NBA spokesman Tim Frank said to the Chicago Tribune. “We have had two players reportedly held at gun point. You can’t get more concerning than that.”

Walker and Curry were both robbed at gun point. Curry, his family and an employee were all victims of the robbery while Walker was bound with duct tape. However, there is no evidence linking both crimes.

“With all that’s taken place, our team security representatives have been reaching out to our players,” Frank added.

Chris Duhon, of the Chicago Bulls spoke with local ABC affiliate about the warning.

“They just told you to be careful, be aware of your surroundings, don’t go out in places by yourself, and just kind of lay low a little bit,” he said.

For years, Magic Johnson put together a charity All-Star celebration called “Mid-Summer Night’s Magic”. Last year, he passed the torch onto younger athletes with hopes of making a difference as well. This year, Baron Davis, Paul Pierce and Gilbert Arenas are teaming up to make a difference in Los Angeles.

This weekend will mark the 2nd annual LA Stars Celebrity Charity Weekend. The event extends from August 3-5 in Los Angeles.

More than 50 NBA players are said to be on-hand for the event and many celebrities will also attend.

This will all take place at USC’s Galen Center. Last year, Pierce spoke of the importance the event has for him.

“Keeping the event in L.A. means the world to us…We grew up here. It’s our home,” he said on NBA.com.

The event will benefit many organizations in different ways. One of them is LA’s BEST (Better Educated Students of Tomorrow), which is an after school enrichment program in Los Angeles. Other foundations that will benefit from this event will be The Magic Johnson Foundation, Paul Pierce’s Truth Foundation and Team Play-The Baron Davis Foundation.
