Fabolous‘ album From Nothin’ to Somethin, has been pushed back until Jun.12. The disc, which was supposed to come out in April, will feature appearances by Young Jezzy, Ne-yo, Just Blaze, Jazze Pha and Timberland.
This is the second time Fab‘s record has been pushed back. It was originally suppose to come out in December but was changed to the Apr.17 release after he was involved in a shooting last October which left him with a gunshot wound to the leg.
The first single off the album is “Diamonds” and features rapper Young Jeezy. Fab is also set to shoot a video for his next song “Return of the Hustle” with Swizz Beatz.
When people were crying “Free Drama” and hoping for the Gangsta Grillz man to come back, some thought it would not happen. After all, being arrested may cause some to change. Not DJ Drama. With all the doubts in the air, and questions regarding his mixtapes, the man admits they are on their way.
“It’s coming,” he tells MTV regarding the new tape. “It’s in the works. Next mixtape is going to be Gangsta Grillz 16, hosted by DJ Drama, featuring Willie the Kid and Don Cannon. We gonna drop that before the album. That’s in the works right now. It’s a couple of artists [reaching out to do mixtapes with me], I ain’t saying no names, it’s too early. But we working. The mixtape game is still here,” he assures.
That’s not all. As he mentions in the quote, he is also working on an LP. The Gangsta Grillz LP has many buzzing about it’s potential. Expect that album to hit store shelves June 5.
MTV recently ran a report stating that The Clipse have followed Kelis in leaving Star Trak. This leaves little star power with Pharrell and Hugo. Some hoped the big name to help them would be Slim Thug, who was closely associated with the crew. However, as Thug put it, their working relationship may or may not end up going further.
“When I signed to Interscope, it was through [my own label] Boss Hogg Outlawz. Then [Interscope Chairman] Jimmy Iovine — this is before the Houston movement took off with myself, Paul Wall, Mike Jones and Chamillionaire — wanted to put me with Pharrell to make it pop. At the end of the day, [sales of my debut album, Already Platinum] didn’t go how we expected it to go. It looked good on paper,” he recently said to MTV.
Elaborating on this, he also added that his core fan base was disappointed with the beat selection on his last album. Still, he didn’t decline any further collaborations with the VA producers.
“I enjoyed it, had fun, but when I’m in the streets in my city, they like, ‘We want to hear you on our sh–. We don’t want to hear you on Pharrell’s sh–.’ I liked working with P though. Hopefully we’ll still be able to do a record together or something.”
Nevertheless, don’t count out the Star Trak logo, which may still end up on the back of Thug‘s next album.
“It’s either you do three songs with him and get the logo on the back of the CD, or you do one and the price of that one is crazy. Hopefully we’ll be able to work that out. But I just been doing the record by myself; when I finish it, we’ll figure it out,” he added.
Expect a variety of rappers on the album, including Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Devin The Dude and UGK. Also, expect a Dr. Dre beat.
“I’m waiting on Devin. I want Devin the Dude to sing the hook for me, but the bitch is jamming. I got the beat already. My A&R got the track. It ain’t like I made the beat with Dre — he did it in Hawaii, he be doing beats out there and comes back with them.”
