HHDX News Bits (Beastie Boys & Swizz Beatz)

The Beastie Boys are gearing up to add vocals to their instrumental release The Mix-Up. MCA recently spoke on the plans and added some new information as to who will be featured on the LP.

He added that The Beasties are “talking to some different artists who might do kinda like remixes and put vocals on it, so it wouldn’t be us doing vocals on it. It would be kind of like a different version of the album, with a bunch of people guesting on it,” he told Billboard.

M.I.A., Lily Allen, and other British singers are being asked to guest on the album.

“It’ll be interesting to see what they do with the stuff.”

Interesting is a good word to describe their take on The Mix-Up. They are also planning a visual presentation of the album by mashing up the music with images taken during their recent tours.

“We’ve been traveling with a Super 8 camera…and a lot of times we’ll just make something. While we were in Singapore we filmed stuff, and in Australia and different places. We’re talking about cutting it together into a full-length film that kinda goes the length of the album.”

Film ambitions do not end there. MCA is also working on a documentary about High School athletes who go straight to the NBA.

As for future Beastie plans, MCA added that there is no plan.

Swizz Beatz recently celebrated a birthday. At this bash, he shared a little information about himself and also shared financial advice. Swizzy is also going on tour and we have the dates here for you.

Swizz Beatz is an art collector. As he noted, he sees art as more valuable than cars. Some would ask why, but it is simple for Swizz.

“You got [Jean-Michel] Basquiats in here, Andy Warhols in here, everything,” Swizz told MTV. “This is like my little hideout. My involvement in art started from the South Bronx, seeing graffiti on the wall, the train, being fascinated with those things. Trying to think, ‘How do they paint a whole train before the sun comes up?’ It’s always been in my soul. When I could afford to buy paintings, I got into it more and more. It’s in me. Art is music. I’m a part of music — that means I’m automatically a part of art. Everybody from Kanye to Nas to Beyoncé, everybody paints. A lot of people are into art, but they come out with it going real slow. Me, I’m going in headfirst.”

“That Benz is gonna lose the value…That Basquiat or Andy Warhol is going to appreciate. You lose $30,000 when you driving out the parking lot. With [art], you appreciating $30,000-plus just by hanging it up on your wall.”

“If there’s a piece of art I want and I’m not liquid to get it or, God forbid, something happens, those cars would go out the window for the art. I don’t really speak about it too much. I like to be about it.”
