Here’s The 1st Rapper Signed To Jack White’s Third Man Records

Jack White — accomplished guitarist/singer who rose to prominence with The White Stripes — announced he’d signed the first Hip Hop act to his Third Man Records imprint a couple of weeks ago.

“We signed our first rapper,” TMR’s Instagram caption read. “Stay close.”

So, who was it? His name is SHIRT, a Queens MC/designer who’s currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Europe. In honor of the monumental occasion, SHIRT, who once designed a fake New York Times website as a way to praise his own music, has delivered his first visual of the year in the form of the San Holo-produced “Flight Home.”

Directed by SHIRT and Dave Svedosh, the video finds him rapping from the top of a truck emblazoned with the adidas and Nike logos in Manhattan. From 23rd and Broadway through the Lower East Side, SHIRT raps for 50 or so blocks as crowds look on.

SHIRT’s debut album, PURE BEAUTY, is expected to arrive via TMR on February 9 and will be followed by a vinyl release on February 23.

    1. Joint ain’t that bad. Digging the visuals, lyrics were cool and the beat was smooth. Looking forward to hearing more!

    2. As much as I like Jack Whites music, I’m not confident in his taste in rap. One of, if not his only rap collaborations was with the insane clown posse a few years ago.

        1. Oh yeah, I remember hearing about those. Gotta go check them out. Probably only did the icp song because they’re both from Detroit.

    3. Good video concept. Dope production. Too bad the lyrics are garbage. Dudes trying to make it off swagger and cadence alone, not gonna happen, you need some bars too.

    4. Never heard of the guy, but if an artist like Jack White felt confident signing him, I’d at least give it a listen. That song”flight home” was dope.

“This for all my immigrants and refugees”

      Oh come the fxxx on.

    5. Black enough to say the N-word and white enough to make it being a mediocre sounding artist. He gonna be big next year

    6. Shirt is a dope ass wrapper been listening since 2012 when he dropped The Fuck album.
He used to go by T.Shirt
“Old Man Aganst” is a dope azz song!

    7. This is Inspiring. SHIRT is Definitely Different. Just look at the Vdo. And Its dope to see a renown Musician/Creative like Jack White co-sign an Up n Comer who happens to Color Outside the Lines. Homie from Queens tho so i might be Biased…
