Hasbro Toy Company Makes Death Row Records Deal Official With $3.8B Cash Transaction

Hasbro Toy Company and Entertainment One have officially closed their deal. According to Hasbro Chairman Brian Goldner, Hasbro’s acquisition of eOne — which owns Death Row Records — was complete following a $3.8 billion (yes, billion) cash transaction.

“We are excited about what we can do together and see tremendous opportunity for shareholder value creation through this acquisition,” Goldner said in a press release. “Our businesses are highly complementary with substantial synergies and a great cultural fit.

“The addition of eOne accelerates our blueprint strategy by expanding our brand portfolio with eOne’s beloved global preschool brands, adding proven TV and film expertise, and creating additional opportunities for long-term profitable growth. We are pleased to welcome the incredibly talented eOne team to our Company.”

eOne has owned Death Row’s catalog for several years. In 2013, the company spent roughly $280 million to buy it, seven years after the iconic label declared bankruptcy. The deal with Hasbro was announced in August.

Death Row Records has reportedly been acquired by the Hasbro toy company, the same entity responsible for several classic toys such as Mr. Potato Head, My Little Pony and G.I. Joe.

According to Rolling Stone, Hasbro announced on Thursday (August 22) they had purchased Entertainment One, a multimedia company that owns the children’s franchises Peppa Pig and PJ Masks.

eOne also has a music division, which just happens to be one of the largest independent labels in the industry. During this year’s first quarter, the company took in $30 million worth of revenue.

“Hasbro will leverage eOne’s immersive entertainment capabilities to bring our portfolio of brands that have appeal to gamers, fans and families to all screens globally and realize full franchise economics across our blueprint strategy for shareholders,” CEO Brian Goldner told Deadline. “We are excited to welcome eOne’s talented employees from around the world into the Hasbro family.”

    1. Jonathan hay and wide awake entertainment bankrupted it and it got sold to Eone, which was owned by Sony I think. Or so Debbie tells me….

    2. Were moving quickly toward extreme capitalism where very few companies own everything and antitrust is a joke. Meanwhile we cheer on immoral losers like Jeff Bezos while they rob us blind.

      1. Lol, stop watching conspiracy theory videos made on YouTube by some guy dropping acid on a daily basis.

    3. Dre action figure,in his shiny sequin outfit wit lipstick, then u can get the Stomping 2pac to stomp him down, Vegas style…white caddie, possibilities are endless

    4. At some point, people are going to realize that the greatest thing about Death Row was quality control. Most of the stuff in the vault was there for a reason.

    5. I hope they make the Tupac T Julliard ballerina doll. The Suge rotting in prison doll will be a big success as well.

        1. Oh look – another stupid, angry little troll. What did the stranger say to upset you that made you personally attack his family, none of whom you know? Get the hell outta here, you pathetic little oxygen thief.

      1. You’re right but that ain’t no dude that’s a corny garbage female writer who was born in 1994 and pretends she is knows about hip hop culture. All she knows about is what Drake had for dinner last night. Only so long fake fraudulent journalists can pretend Smh.

    6. This is the perfect analogy for the industry and what higher ups really see it for. See Black men and rappers as toys. Use you up then throw you out once you played out…or in this case, sell you for more as a collectible. Lol “we bought your ‘culture’ and you can’t profit off of it even though we don’t know what to do with you” Hip Hop takes another L …a few white folks just got billions from a black mans death thanks to a toy company that’s a L to the hundredth power

      1. It’s called business u fucking dumbass lol. You act like the black owned labels, like Fred Aftermath, don’t do the same exact thing as other labels. MUSIC LABELS ARE BUSINESSES. Mainstream hiphop isn’t black culture. It’s rich white men selling a product to the youth, mostly white consumers. If your so against labels, then only listen to independent artists (hint, very few truly independent artists, as they don’t have the talent to market themselves)

      2. No, higher ups see artists and their music labels as mutually beneficial business relationships. I’m not aware of any independent rappers who ended up with over $50 million but can name a bunch of them who signed to major labels like Interscope, and walked away filthy rich. U act like the labels are simply fucking everyone, where is the true rap stars are filthy filthy rich, and then walk away from the labels eventually with a giant name, doing a show for $100k

        1. Nigga you slow…again, Pac is spinning in Cuba for his music and work ethic being sold to a toy company that delivers circulars to your baby moms every December

      3. Take that race baiting BS somewhere else. It is business, not a black or white thing. Do some research and you’ll see how much hypocrisy you spout.

        1. Negative. Itd be race baiting if I said ALL white people. Stop placing it out of context. Im ONLY talking about the people who made the deal and the history of the Hip Hop INDUSTRY. HUGE reach.

          1. Negative. It doesn’t have to be all white people to be race baiting. Like white people in the entertainment industry aren’t just seen as ‘toys’ or ways to make money for the higher-ups? You are a race-baiting clown.

    7. JayZ bought crack to sell to relatives of people who eventually bought and bumped his music, but couldn’t buy Death Row Records?
