Gunplay Could Face Up To 5 Years In Prison For Leaked DJ Envy Phone Call

Gunplay has potentially broken the law by leaking a private phone conversation he had with DJ Envy, and the punishment could result in the rapper facing up to five years in prison.

The issues between the former Maybach Music spitter and Breakfast Club host started on Monday (May 29), after the former demanded an apology from the radio host for bringing his newborn daughter’s GoFundMe page into his feud with Rick Ross.

During Envy’s vicious spat with the MMG boss last week, the radio host condemned Rozay for not publicly supporting Gunplay’s GoFundMe or helping take care of his child’s medical bills. Gunplay didn’t like having his name mentioned and in turn demanded an apology via an intentionally leaked phone call, at one point threatening Envy with violence.

“Why you talking crazy? About me my brother. What I had to do with anything, and my wife posting a GoFundMe? My baby was sick. She had a heart defect. That has nothing to do with cars. You know I’ll slap the shit out you, boy! Envy, for real, you know I’ll slap the shit out of you, right?”

Envy responded: “We can fight, but that’s not the reason I’m saying that… I wasn’t trying to disrespect you. I wasn’t talking about your daughter. If you feel like you were disrespected, I’m talking to you like a man. I would never. If you feel I did, I apologize. That wasn’t my intention.”

On Tuesday’s (May 30) Breakfast Club Rumor Report, Envy spoke about the leaked call, and wasn’t too happy that Gunplay decided to publicize what he believed to be a private conversation.

“I thought it was dope because I thought it was two men having a problem, a disagreement and handling it like men,” Envy said around the five-minute mark in the video above. “The fact that we could have that discussion. I thought that was dope, but the when you record a phone call? I just thought that was chasing something else.”

He went on to say that he actually never met Gunplay’s wife or kids, adding that he “never even said what it was I just said he put up a GoFundMe.”

“Another thing that people gotta understand too, and this is a side note, it is against the law to record somebody’s phone conversation and not tell ’em,” Envy added. “That is against the law … I want people to understand right? Florida is where this happened. Under Florida statute 93403, ‘secretly audio recording another individual is a third-degree felony offense, punishable up to five years in prison and a fine.”

He continued: “District Attorneys from Florida have been calling me like crazy because you’re not allowed to tape somebody’s phone call and put it out … it’s so wack to record somebody’s phone call … it’s not a man thing.”

During their initial spat, Gunplay also demanded Envy make a public apology to his wife when he returned to The Breakfast Club, adding that she was “in panic mode.”

“I told her to chill but it’s cool. We did a GoFund Me — that’ ain’t nothing so don’t bring my child into this my n-gga because then we gon’ be having bad blood, dog,” Gunplay said in the aforementioned phone call.

Charlamagne Tha God also asked that Envy apologize during Tuesday’s Rumor Report, but Envy said he wouldn’t “over-apologize.”

“I said if she felt a way, I apologize. I said that,” Envy said. “I’m not gonna over-apologize.”

Gunplay’s partner posted a GoFundMe for their daughter who underwent emergency heart surgery in February and they’ve since raised over $30,000 in the time since.

Meanwhile, tensions between Envy and Ross started earlier this month when the MMG mogul took a swipe at the Breakfast Club co-host during his interview on Drink Champs, declaring he was “never on my level” when it comes to hosting car shows. Things took a personal turn when Rozay insulted Envy’s family, requesting he and his girlfriend and children clean his swimming pool.
