A petition to remove Kanye West from performing at Glastonbury began almost simultaneously with the announcement that he would be headlining the festival.
100,000 signatures have already been collected digitally since Monday calling for the superstar rapper/producer to step down. The fest’s organizer has now responded via a letter in The Guardian. Emily Eavis, daughter of Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, defended Kanye and the festival’s decision to have him headline.
“We think the story this year should not be: ‘Why is Kanye coming?’ but: ‘How amazing is it that Kanye is coming?'” She said in defense of the often controversial rapper. She also called him a “music legend, always interesting, never boring.” Some of the controversy over ‘Ye’s slated performance stems from both his past public statements and actions as well as traditionalists displeased with the festival’s choice of a Hip Hop headliner rather than a more traditional rock act. Eavis believes it’s neither however and claims the problem lies with those signing the petition and relaying public outcry.
“Some of the vitriol being thrown around this week has made me question the dark underbelly of the web,” she said in the letter. “Who are those people silently shouting in disgust, throwing out threats from behind their screens? It certainly isn’t pleasant to be on the receiving end of that. I can’t even imagine how it makes Kanye feel.” Emily Eavis also tweeted out a picture of her father holding up a poster exclaiming, “Yeezy Does It!”

If I am at a musical festival where several performers are going on at the same time, I go and watch the performer I like. If there is a concert with a performer I am not a fan of, I don’t buy a ticket. Am I the only one?
this was traditionally a rock music festival. the fact that this autotune singer is headlining is a joke.
