Gang Starr Album Pushed Back

Gang Starr, Guru and Primo, are one of hip hop’s most respected duos and undoubtedly, one of the greatest groups of all-time. They first made their mark in 1989 with “No More Mr Nice Guy,” a heavily jazz-influenced record that was critically acclaimed. Who knew that it would be their worst album? 1991’s “Step In The Arena” was even better and 92’s “Daily Operation” took things to another level. The duo released their masterpiece in 94 with “Hard To Earn.”

After yet another incredible LP in 98 (“Moment of Truth”), Guru and Primo have been busy doing their own things and Gang Starr has been quite. That was set to change this fall with the release of their sixth album, “The Ownerz.” Make that this winter, the album has been pushed back and given a date of February 11th, 2003. The album is essentially completed at this point, but they are trying to get a track done with Busta Rhymes.

There is no word yet of other collaborations, you can assume there will be appearances from members of the Gang Starr Foundation (ie. Freddie Foxxx, Lil’ Dap, Big Shug etc).

A notable track on the album is the return of “DJ Premier In Deep Concentration.” It is the first time since their debut that Primo will have a track exclusively displaying his skills on the wheels of steel.
