Young Money/Cash Money Records is no stranger to making headlines with their business moves and yesterday was no exception.
Compton, California rapper Game became the newest signee of one of Hip Hop’s most powerful labels. YMCMB headman Birdman took to Twitter to relay the news.
“S/O 2MY@thegame Westcoast makit Official.RICHGANG.YMCMBusine$$,” he tweeted.
Baby also followed up early Sunday morning with an Instagram picture and the caption, “S/O thagame shit to real whtup 5 west coast whts popin RICHGANG YMCMBusine$$.”
Game would later add to the news by retweeting Birdman, among others, who also tweeted about the new move. He would also reply to Birdman, saying “time to close the door on these niggas !!!! R$CHGANG.”
Game released his latest mixtape, OKE (Operation Kill Everything) last week.
Following the release of Jesus Piece in 2012, Game became a free agent, no longer having to fill any obligations with Interscope Records, where he released his first five major label studio albums. The Compton, California rapper is preparing for his next album, which will likely be released by Cash Money.

But why would you pay for your own tours? That makes no sense. All majors want from you is a return on their investment of some kind. Who cares if you have to split tour money with them. Better to have a well established machine behind you than hitting the road 365 days a year hoping people will continue supporting your little movement.
Depends. The traditional ways majors recoup on investment are pretty much obsolete and the majors were VERY slow adapting to current times. So they for the most part have squeezed artists more without really having the budgets they used to or any idea how to make money. Lots of indie artists can book tours with substantial guarantees plus merch, rent a bus for a month, and go make money. They can give away the albums for free (or charge $100 for a limited run) or whatever works for them.
Why would pay for your own tours? When you get paid, risk=reward. I’m in a different industry, so maybe not comparable. I own a firm. I used to provide a service as a contractor/employee and have 3-4 middlemen take a cut for not doing anything, really. I “fired” those guys, gave up all my accounts, and now make 4x on 1/3 the work. I have to pay for my own software,sales, laborers, limited overhead. Everything I make after the 8th of the month is pure profit. If I did music, I sure wouldn’t mind taking on the risk to get paid $1000s per show, play festivals, make custom fan-centered Lp packages, etc. Rather than sign up to get shelved and a couple bucks for an album that might not come out. Indie artists and small labels have their own publicists, managers, bookers, etc.. and have for decades.
