G-Eazy Actually Went To Dinner With JAY-Z & It Was ‘Life-Changing’

G-Eazy is clearly an advocate for the former option in the ongoing dinner with JAY-Z or $500k debate, as he once dined with the Hip Hop mogul and found the experience to be “life-changing.”

During his appearance on Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero’s 7PM in Brooklyn podcast that was published on Thursday (May 9), the Bay Area native recounted sitting down with Jay in New York City while working on his sophomore album Must Be Nice, which dropped in 2012

“I’m in the last week of recording, finishing it and one of my managers, who’s a Jedi master, a legend in this industry, Gee Roberson goes like, ‘I’m pulling up. We’re going to dinner.’”

Though he was inclined to say no because he was laser-focused on the LP, G eventually agreed to go.

“I still don’t know where we’re going or why the dinner,” he continued. “I’m not in New York to have dinner. I’m here to finish this. We’re going and the whole drive there, I’m like, ‘Brother, how are you going to tell me what?’ We get to the spot and the hostess says, ‘Can I help you?” And [Roberson] goes, ‘Yeah, we’re at Shawn Carter’s table.’ I’m like, ‘Dog, the fuck?’

“I sit down and it’s like [JAY-Z’s] in the corner and he just looks up at me and he’s like, ‘How’d you get here? What’s your story?’ I started panicking. But then we just got into the convo and it was a life-changing kind of evening.”

CyHi The Prynce would also choose a dinner with JAY-Z over $500,000, despite the legendary rapper’s recommendation to the contrary.

In October, the former G.O.O.D. Music rapper retweeted Gayle King’s interview with Hov where she got his take on the long-running debate — and said he’d still take the dinner, citing Jay as the reason Kanye West wanted to sign him.

“I’m taking the meeting with @sc aka Jay z,” CyHi said. “I don’t care what y’all say 500k aint no real money and most people who would take it Has never made any real paper!!!! I’ve made more than that annually the last 13 years of my career and that was after I met with Jay Z.”

After a fan asked about if his high income had come as a result of JAY-Z, he continued: “Yes he told Ye to sign me [shrug emoji] and got on so appalled and I got a pub deal for a half of ticket plus touring plus royalties and a salary. I was broke when I met jay z I had 1500 dollars to my name. I just had got evicted from my crib and I had to borrow money from @GregStreetV103.”

The topic was reignited on social media at the time after a fan caught up with Hov himself and informed him he’d take the money. Gayle then got the Brooklyn native’s advice during an interview, and he explained why he too would take the cash.

“You gotta take the money,” he replied with little hesitation. “What I’ma say? You got all that [wisdom] in the music for $10.99! That’s a bad deal. I wouldn’t tell you to cut a bad deal. Take the $500,000, go buy some albums and listen to the albums — it’s all there!”

He went on: “If you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words, for what it is, it’s all there. Everything that I said was gonna happen, happened. Everything that I said I wanted to do, I’ve done. There’s the blueprint. The blueprint, literally, to me and my life and my journey is there already.”

    1. Surprising how Jay-Z did a fantastic job establishing himself as some kind of a living god for these dumbass rappers while he was not even considered in a top 10 rappers list in the 90s and early 2000s. Nas, DMX, Scarface, Eminem, Prodigy of Mobb Deep, Ghostface and Raekwon, Ice Cube, 2Pac, 50 Cent, Snoop, Kurupt, etc. could circle around this nikka anytime and anywhere. But just like Fifty said: his marriage with Beyonce and his affiliation with Kanye and Pharrell put him on some spot where his fame status enjoyed a boost that make forget anyone how irrelevant he was when some of the most prolific rappers were running the game. He definitely took advantage of the void left by some of the greatest who either retired or passed away. Can’t believe this camel look alike motherfxcker fooled almost everyone with his stunt.

      1. Sounds like someone who read about the era instead of living it smh, jay-z and rocafella were doing big things in that run

      2. So? Ja Rule and Murder Inc were also doing be things in that run. Just like Master P and No Limits. Or Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz. I don’t hear y’all motherfxckers sucking on their schlong like that. FOH

      3. There’s a difference between being a hot rapper for a moment vs having longevity and a catalog full of classics but if your not a fan just say that and keep bumping your lil jon without trying to go against the grain of the general consensus

      4. General consensus huh? Then according to your logic Obama was a wonderful president and Trump is America’s savior. FOH! Just say you’re a sheep following a trend while you were just a toddler in the early 2000s. I can tell you that people from my generation didn’t listen to Jay-Z like that in the 90s. There were many rappers more listened to and successful than Jay-Z back then. It’s a fact.

      5. Old head here, I’ve got Hov in my top 5 and I’ve bought more Jay-Z records than any other MC, and I agree with the dude. He didn’t get here because he was a phenominal MC, but a very consistent one. He never really fell off when others, who were better rappers, like X, Busta, Mystikal did, I’m really not into the new stuff, but I still respect the Brand.

      6. Of course there were people who listened to Jay-Z and ranked him in their top 5. Just like there were people who listened to AZ or Cormega and ranked them in their top 5. I’m just saying that Jay-Z was never THAT popular while the heavy weights of the rap game were there. And about Jay’s so called consistency I beg to differ. After the Black Album, everything he released was average if not below average without considering Vol. 3, The Dynasty and Blueprint II which are shitty albums.
