Future‘s first-born child King Kobi has revealed what it’s like having the Atlanta rap superstar as a father, especially when he’s trying to be a rapper.

During an episode of The Progress Report, Kobi spoke about his superstar father and what it was like having him around. One of the things that Baby Pluto Jr. mentioned was the influence Future has on him and his music.

“Just by seeing it being right there though, like seeing it, like seeing how other people react to his music and he just being my dad, like just looking at the crowd react to him and how he get awards and winning stuff is just like, dang I can do that, like it’s a possibility,” Kobi said. “I can get that same awards, and people can know all my songs word for word just like they know his songs, so that’s who I can say is one of my main influences.”

According to Kobi, being Future’s son was pretty regular. He was able to go to school with the flyest gear with no issue and play around with his friends. Things changed, though, once Future’s career blew up, and people started catching on to him being Kobi’s dad.

“Shit, it was regular, like going to school, had all the KD’s, LeBron’s, you know what I’m saying, all the Nike outfits,” Kobie explained. “It was cool though. I still played outside every day. I had bikes went to the park God damn movies. I did everything everybody else was doing.

“It wasn’t really different until it got like, ‘That’s your dad?’ but I’m still the same Kobi. Shit nothing really changed, but the status for real. I’m still the same person.”

When asked if he finds it annoying now that more people know who his dad is, Kobi said he’s handling it so much better now that he’s prepared for all the attention that comes his and his family’s way.

“It sure is annoying, but that’s what comes with it,” Kobi said. “Me not being used to it at first then me getting used to it prepared me to just deal with it now. So it’s really [not] that big of a deal now because I know how to move around with certain stuff. It’s easy now.”

Kobi is the oldest of Future’s seven kids, and the child’s mother is Jessica Smith. In 2016, Smith sued the rapper for allegedly neglecting Kobi and “failing to maintain a loving and meaningful relationship with him,” according to a report by theJasmineBrand.

Smith also requested more money in child support payments because she felt the original amount she was getting at the time was too low, considering how much money Future was making.

It appears that things have worked out between the family given the high praise Kobi had for his father on The Progress Report. The same can’t be said for the rapper and a woman claiming to have had a daughter with him.

“You can cuss Future out damn near slap that ni-gga and he will not trip,” the woman shared to her Instagram story in October. “But go to the internet he gone come for your throat. He hates it!”

She continued: “I know he miss me eating his ass but we don’t need to be doing this bad term good term shit every few months.”

While this woman’s identity remains a mystery, she is far from the first woman to criticize Future’s parenting skills. In 2021, Brittni Mealy, the mother of Future’s 8-year-old son Prince, took to Instagram to share an alleged text message convo between Future and Prince in which the former writes: “Your mother is a hoe!”

Mealy wrote in the caption: “He texts this to a child! You a real coward he 8 years old stupid.” Future replied with a cap emoji, but Mealy said the exchange was definitely real.
