Funk Flex has made it very clear how he feels about J.I.D after the Dreamville rapper said he was disappointed at how the DJ reacted to one of his freestyles.

The Spillage Village MC admitted this week that spitting for Flex in 2017 was a “childhood dream,” but his muted response to his Hot 97 freestyle over Screwball’s “F.A.Y.B.A.N.” and Biggie’s “Who Shot Ya?” left him “a little upset” to the point he decided to retire from doing freestyles altogether.

“That was a good time. Funk ain’t even understand what was going on,” J.I.D told the Rap Radar Podcast. “He was kerfuffled, I was giving him something and he ain’t even get it. We might go back one day. I silently retired away from the freestyles because I was mad at Flex because he didn’t respond the way I wanted to.”

The Atlanta rapper added that not getting one of Flex’s famous bombs during his freestyle or “none of the hype” that the New York DJ has given to other rappers in that past put his nose out of joint. But he did say that he’ll probably make a return to freestyling as “it’s another part of the art, it’s another notch on your tool belt.”

After seeing J.I.D’s comments, Flex took to Instagram on Friday (January 20) to praise the Atlanta rapper, labeling him one of his favorite artists.

“DID YALL KNOW THAT @JIDSV IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ARTIST?” the DJ wrote alongside a screenshot of a TMZ news story about his comments.

Flex then teased the possibility of J.I.D returning to Hot 97. “WHO WANTS TO HEAR ANOTHER JID FREESTYLE?” he wrote before adding: “WHOS YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST TO HEAR FREESTYLE?”

J.I.D jumped in the comment section of the post to tell Flex it was all “love” between them and that he wants to “run it back.”

Meanwhile, Flex caused a bit of stir earlier this week when he promised to start putting 6ix9ine’s music back into his rotation as a result of the “trend” of rappers copping plea deals.

Flex’s point was made in relation to a recent Instagram post from the rainbow-haired rapper, which saw him catching some Z’s on a private jet while snuggling up with a lap full of money.

The caption — which detailed his exact arrival time and the airport he would be landing at — seemed to imply that anyone who wanted to show up and confront the “FEFE” lyricist at the airport was free to do so, but dozens of commenters reminded the “FeFe” rapper of how dangerous this was.

Flex reshared the controversial video to his Instagram and asked the public for their opinion on whether he should resume playing 6ix9ine’s music since it was cool to cooperate with federal authorities, just as the Crown Heights rapper did in 2020 to convict numerous members of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods.

“WHAT EVERYONES OPINION? FOR ME,” Flex wrote. IM NO LONGER NOT “NOT” PLAYING 6IX 9INE MUSIC ANYMORE! (SPEAKING FOR MYSELF ONLY). OBVIOUSLY ACCORDING TO REPORTS… THE TREND AMONGST ALOT OF CURRENT RAPPERS (SINCE AND BEFORE 6IX 9INE) CONSIST OF COOPERATING AND TESTIFYING!

He continued: “(BE CLEAR… MANY OF YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST COOPERATE WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT… DONT LET ME CALL NAMES).”

Flex was likely referring to the ongoing YSL RICO case, which in recent weeks has seen members copping plea deals. Flex’s reaction comes after a seventh and eighth YSL affiliate recently reached a plea deal to secure their release from jail.

However, not everyone seems to be onboard with Flex’s stance. Boosie Badazz reached out to the Hot 97 DJ on Instagram in an attempt to persuade him to reinstate his ban of 6ix9ine’s music on his show.

“STICK TO IT FLEX WE NEED THIS [BAN] ALL THEM RATS,” Boosie commented on an Instagram post from SayCheeseTV on Monday (January 16).
